SOURCE: My 99 Durango turns over fine but won't start.

first off have you checked the fuel pressure at the fuel rail take the duct off of the throttle body spray some starter fluid or carb cleaner in it and see if it starts if so you need to change the fuel filter or the fuel pump if not check your crankshaft sensor before buying any electrical componets

Where is the trailer light fuse

The answer to this question depends on several factors such as: Whether the towbar was a factory fitted unit fitted during
pre-delivery, a genuine brand unit or an aftermarket unit & who, where & when it was fitted...
The majority of towbars & the assosiated wiring out there are simply wired in to the rear tail light circuits such as:
  • Trailer stop lights wired to vehicle stop light circuit in eighther of the rear tail lights.
  • Trailer park lights wired to vehicle park light circuit same side as the stop lights, as above.
  • Trailer number plate lights wired to vehicle park light circuit same side, as above.
  • Trailer reverse lights (if fitted) wired to vehicle reverse light circuit same side, as above.
  • Trailer left hand indicator wired to vehicle left hand indicator light circuit
  • Trailer right hand indicator wired to vehicle right hand indicator light circuit.
This means that if fitted in this manner (as the majority are) the corrosponding vehicle light fuse will affect the trailer lights unless the is an inline fuse fitted to each single circuit (which cld be blown). This is very uncommon & wld be a costly way to do it...

In some more modern cars that came from the factory (not the dealership ie. pre-delivery) with the tow bar fitted as standard equipment it is possible that there cld be a sepparate little fuse box or section in the main fuse box (the position of the fuse box/es shld be in your owners manual usually Under the bonnet, under the dash or behind font foot kick panels, & if you dont have an owners manual for your vehicle they are usually available to buy an aftermarket version or these days on the internet & often downloadable for free or @ a small charge).

All the best & I hope this is of some help...

Fuse trailer lights

They're usually fed off vehicle brake lights or the electric brakes, I haven't seen one yet with a separate fuse except inlines.

Stop lamp circuit discription

Stop Lamps
The STOP LP 25-amp fuse in the underhood fuse block supplies battery positive voltage to the normally open stop lamp switch. When the driver presses the brake pedal, the switch contacts close and battery positive voltage is supplied to both the STOP 15-amp fuse and the center high mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) 10-amp fuse in the instrument panel (I/P) fuse block, and to the turn signal/hazard module. The turn signal/hazard module then supplies voltage to both of the trailer rear turn/stop lamp supply voltage circuits. The voltage from the CHMSL 10-amp fuse is to the CHMSL and the trailer jumper harness. The voltage from the STOP 15-amp fuse is to the stop lamps, throttle actuator control (TAC) module, and the cruise control.

I think The turn signal/hazard module has something to do with the lights flashing .From looking at a wiring diagram B+ voltage from the STOP LP fuse 25amp in the under hood fuse box supply's the brake light switch , from there it feeds B+ to VEH STOP fuse 15amp and VEH CHMSL fuse 10amp an to stop lamp switch signal to the turn signal flasher module which is suppose to control the trailer stop lights . Do you have a connection for a trailer hook up ?
Remove both LT an RT TRLR fuse's both 10 amp from the I/P fuse block an see if the problem goes away .

Do you tow a trailer ? Check the trailer connector for corrosion !

Wiring diagram

Hook up the trailer to the vehicle. Under the rear bumper you will find a thick wire harness that runs from left to right or vica versa. Choose a location to strip open the harness to gain access to the different color wires. Open the trailer coupling. remove all wires and split them apart. Now start with say the right indicator light on the vehicle. Earth should be established via the grounding method of the trailer hook steel on steel of the vehicle. Connect any wire of the trailer to the now flashing right indicator light. Go through them all till the right indicator bulb flashes on the trailer. A good approach to determine which wire is active, is to make a test light from an old bulb connector some have already two wires connected ie; pos neg. neg the tester onto any part of the vehicle chassis and the pos to the now live wire. Go through them all till all wires meet up. Now go on and extend the harness by means of soldering properly and insulating that wire from the main harness to the female fitting of the trailer connector. At each connection on the fitting fit on properly the different wires and do the same to the male connector from the trailer so that all lines up inside the two connectors. Good luck

The trailer might have a bad ground. My camper does the same thing to my truck. Try directly connecting the trailer ground to the frame of your vehicle. This might solve the problem as it did for me.

Batt wont charge on my trailer from my 2009 f-150

Here's a wiring diagram

If you look at the illustration, it shows the center is an auxiliary power source. If there's nothing hooked on the tow vehicle's plug, you may need to run a wire to the switched side of the starter solenoid. Make sure you fuse it with an inline fuse. Make sure your wire in sufficient gauge and your fuse is ample to protect all your circuitry. you may even want to put a 20a circuit breaker inline and then run from cable that at least matches or is a gauge size higher than the trailer's aux power cabling size..

Is there a hidden 'inline' fuse on a 04/6 cy

There are seperate "trailer" fuses in the fuse box in the engine compartment. Separate fuses for trailer left, right and running lights.

Check all fuses, I had the same issue before.

Good luck.
