Question about 1991 Ford Explorer
I smelled burning rubbber, and then the "anti-lock" brake light came on. The truck seems to be sluggish when taking off.
You need to jack up the truck and make sure each wheel will turn freely make sure both sides of the rear axle is off the ground shift it to neutral and try to turn the wheels and do the same for the front make sure you dont have a base brake problem first I think the light has come on because the system has detected a difference in wheel speed between one or two wheel and i think you have a bad caliper or metering valve if it dosent have a metering valve it will have a proportioning valve that is bad

Adjust your rear brake shoes. Then rebleed the system. Start at the master cylinder Bleed master first then the wheel furthest away from the master (right rear then left rear then right front then left front. Do that and your pedal should be good.

Check the fluid level, top it off if needed, look for a fill to line on the side of the reservoir. Check rear brake shoes/pads, are they too worn? Replace with new ones. Bleed all 4 wheels, starting with the farthest one, then go to next farthest, and so on. Look for leaks inside the rear wheels. Adjust rear brakes (if shoes not pads).
