Question about 2009 Mazda MAZDA5

Open Question

2009 Mazda 5 started high pitch whirring sound...ten minutes into my 30 minute drive. Sound slowed each time I approached stop light and braked. What could it be?

At first, I thought something had fallen over in the vehicle, sounded like a bucket of bolts. (There was nothing in the vehicle) Then it sounded like interference on my radio...after about 5 minutes I turned the radio off and then realized..it was not coming from the radio. When I made a right turn I once again heard a strange sound...clunk of sorts..then the high pitched sound continued until I came home. My first thought was brakes or wheel bearing...?? Although the brakes seem to be operating fine.

Hi Art Dixon, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Check your drive shafts for play. Bad shaft bearings likely the cause.

SOURCE: my car is a 03

This could be caused the idle speed control valve as air passes through it, have seen this issue on other models many times, clean the valve first, if the noise persists replace it.

SOURCE: Back rear brakes metal to metal sound

I would not doubt that it is from aftermarket parts.

Use silicon grease on the caliper slides and use brake grease on all metal to metal contact parts when installing the new parts.

Also, grind away any rust where the pads sit on the caliper bracket before installing them.

your crank position sensor is starting to go bad. we see this a lot at the shop, when it gets hot it will short itself out. you will need to replace it before it goes out all the way. it is located on the front of the valve cover or on the pass side rear of the cover and is held it by one bolt. you can get this at your local parts house but I do recommend you use the one from the dealer we seem to have less problems with them.

There is a metal tab on some pads that contacts the rotor to make hideous noises telling the driver they need to replace the brake pads. It's in your owner's manual.

99 cavalier battery light comes on but new battery....

it sounds to me like it could be the alternator im afraid but the only real cheap way to tell is time. if you continue to drive this and keep a check on wether it still starts or lights dim, with it being a new battery it is going to take a while fot it to go flat. if it does then try not to drive it too much as this will break it and cost you even more.
