dealer repair as it may be 1 of 3 things to be replaced:
1 -
Body Control Module (BCM)
1 -
Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
1 -
Sensor Diagnostic Module (SDM)
If the BCM or SDM has to be replaced the dealer will have to reprogram them to match your vehicles specifications. The instrument panel can be replaced by the vehicle owner with a few turns of a screwdriver and such

DTC U1001-U1254 Loss of Communications
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) U1016
Vehicle not starting an running ?
Do you know anything about GM class 2 serial data network .
Modules connected to the class 2 serial data circuit monitor for serial data communications during normal vehicle operation. Operating information and commands are exchanged among the modules. When a module receives a message for a critical operating parameter, the module records the identification number of the module which sent the message for State of Health monitoring (Node Alive messages). A critical operating parameter is one which, when not received, requires that the module use a default value for that parameter. Once an identification number is learned by a module, it will monitor for that module's Node Alive message. Each module on the class 2 serial data circuit which is powered and performing functions that require detection of a communications malfunction is required to send a Node Alive message every 2 seconds. When no message is detected from a learned identification number for 10 seconds, a DTC U1016
The control module ID number list below provides a method for determining which module is not communicating. A module with a class 2 serial data circuit malfunction or which loses power during the current ignition cycle will have a Loss of Communication DTC set by other modules that depend on information from that failed module. The modules that can communicate will set a DTC indicating the module that can not communicate.

Do you know how to do a loaded circuit test for the power an ground circuits for that module ?
First you need to have EBCM - electronic brake control module check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . If the light is on there is a code stored . I think most part stores can do this and for free . After you find out what code is stored , looking up that code in service repair information for diagnostic trouble shooting chart would be next step . There are a few codes too.
DTC C0035 or C0040
DTC C0045 or C0050
DTC C0110
DTC C0131
DTC C0161
DTC C0186

DTC C0283
DTC C0287
DTC C0290 or C0292
DTC C0455
DTC C0550
DTC C0558
Find the code do the diagnostic's , fix the problem , wiring issue's , a sensor , bad module ,what ever it is . The light will go out then . Here is a sample of code discription .

DTC P0671: Cylinder #1 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0672: Cylinder #2 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0673: Cylinder #3 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0674: Cylinder #4 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0675: Cylinder #5 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0676: Cylinder #6 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0677: Cylinder #7 Glow Plug Control Circuit
DTC P0678: Cylinder #8 Glow Plug Control Circuit
Circuit/System Description
The glow plug controller has the ability to perform internal checks, an open or a short to ground on each of the glow plug circuits. If the glow plug controller senses a problem in a glow plug circuit, the glow plug on the affected cylinder will be disabled and the glow plug controller will send an error message to the engine control module (ECM). If this condition exists, the DTC will set.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The glow plug controller detects that the glow plug control circuit is open, shorted to ground, or has more than 1 ohm of resistance.
Circuit/System Verification
Verify that DTC P064C is not set.
If DTC P064C is set, refer to DTC P064C.
Ignition ON, engine OFF, observe the scan tool Glow Plug 1-Glow Plug 8 parameters. All 8 Glow Plug parameters should closely match each other.
Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections if you cannot duplicate the conditions.
Engine running, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. DTCs P0671-P0678 should not set.
Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
DTC C0035 Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit
DTC C0201 Antilock Brake System (ABS) Enable Relay Contact Circuit
The system relay, located within the electronic brake control module (EBCM), supplies battery voltage to all of the valve solenoids and to the ABS pump motor. When the relay contacts close, the EBCM monitors the voltage supplied to the valve solenoids and compares this voltage to monitored ignition voltage.

There is a Pontiac Technical Service Bulletin addressing your exact issue, right down the the same exact codes you are getting. Here is the information I gathered and I will place a link to the page where I found it. You will need to scroll down the list of TSBs to find your specific one. Apparently this is a problem for the Grand Prix.
Here is the basic data:
TSB Number:
0308116001
NHTSA Number:
10002880
TSB Date:
February 1, 2004
Date Added to File:
September 30, 2003
Failing Component:
Electrical System
Summary:
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) U1000, U1016, U1064, U1096 or U1305 set in error. This bulletin replaces previous bulletin dated 06/01/2003.

It sure sounds like the oil sending unit is at fault, now sometimes, not always, the oil sending unit will seep oil or leak oil if they go bad,but like I said, not always, change the unit, and the oil and filter just for precaution.
