The starter system will not affect the engine starting. Only cranking.
Someone would need to figure out if you are missing spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors to proceed.

I believe that my car is having a cooling issue. When the car gets hot , my wife and I can drive say 70 miles, and then when the car is cut off it will not crank back until it has cooled back down. I believe that the fan thermostat is not telling the fans to come at the right temperature. I will try to post shortly if this is what is going to fix it. I am waiting on the part and a volt meter. Also I will drive the car around town and get it warmed up, then cut the car off at my house and test voltage to the fuel pump and see if there is voltage there. I believe there is a safety circuit that either allows voltage through, but only if the engine coolant temperature is right. This is what I believe is wrong with my car.

Won't start

so stop guessing, buy an $10 voltmeter (walfart has one)
and do simple tests. all very easy, ask.
the first step is jumper cable starts, ! cranks/ pass/fail??????
my guess, this fails.
if my car dont jump start, (i can coast start my car)
i check battery voltgage, alhhhhhh 12.6vdc, good. 10v bad.
i then hot wire the starter solenoid.
dead, (or clicks) , starter bad, big cables to it bad,(x2) or engine seized. (or battery bad, blow 10v cranking is bad battery 99%
i hand turn engine by hand, it dont turn, it's seized.
it turns by hand; good.!
so lets say the hot wire test works (keys in pocket cranks but dont start now , because my keys are in my pockets for safety)

that means the KEY LINE Is dead (small wire to starter solenoid)
see here. works for all cars. (not hacked key lines, etc.)

It won't start: new battery, have lights, it just clicks when you turn the ignition switch

you mean it wont crank, it must crank to start.
1: bad starter system
2: weak battery even a new battery can be weak.
if you dont charge it first.
or if it starts ok then wont later, that means cars charge system failure.

can you jump start engine? with jumper cables.
that be a big clue there, proving starter works but battery was weak.
if the battery is fully charged.
you can hot wire the starter solenoid, (tiny terminal)
if car cranks now, the key start wire is failing.
A/T or M/T tranny? both use different path here....??????

if you cant hot wire it, then that means the stater is bad
the cables bad or the battery is not really connected.
or possible the engine is seized, can you hand turn over the engine at the front crank bolt (CW , facing rear, in neutral)
if not motor is seized.
some times even the starter and rig gear can be seized.
the starter can be bench tested. too.

My 2000 explorer will crank on some days but if i crank it and drive it i wont start again till the next morn what could be wrong

a good area to check is the ignition stater itself. try to knock on the stater under the hood when it does not crank and see if in the process it starts. if it starts then u may need a new stater. you may still need a mechanic to check on the entire electrical system of the engine that inclueds the coils and the sparks. thanks

The car has power but not starting, the battery has a full charg and the stater clics once . I think its the stater but not sure?

Make sure the cable ends, and the battery post are clean, and shiny, not gray,or black in color. This will act as an insulator .Have some one tap on the starter lightly, while you try to start the engine. If the starter trys to start,or starts, then replace it.The contacts in the starter will be worn down.

try over riding the starter relay on the fender ,it has one there right?. dont go to a mechanic yet. the engine aint seized. if it doesnt have this relay then i would get the alternator tested. if you want to test it yourself it can be costly for the right equip. autozone usually tests for free. i dont know were you live so if theres not an autozone. let me know if you cant get it tested.
