SOURCE: My hood latch won't latch when I close the hood. 1997 Ford Exped

Hrmm. Have you taken the whole latch assembly off ? If not there is a black cover over the assembly which has about 6 screws on it that is also connected to th fan shroud, then after that it's only 2 bolts to undo I believe they are 5/8ths socket, dont quote me. My 97 just had the same problem I popped the hood one day and then it didnt close again. So after taking the assembly out there are 2 springs one that is for after the hood is popped to just open it up that is a big spring about 2 1/2 inches or so. Theres another one at the bottom though that actually keeps the hood latched down on my truck it was rusted and snapped in half. I went to the ford dealer said I had to buy a whole new assembly 25$ plus 2 days wait, I went to home depot in the hardware section found a pack of springs that contain (2) 2 1/2" inch springs and (2) 1 1/2" for 4 dollars used the small one to replace it now I have back up for both. Hopefully this is your problem cause it's cheap and easy to fix just open it up. Let me know if this is it.

SOURCE: Broken hood release cable 1996 Ford F150 pickup

On each side of the latch there is an 8mm screw that can be removed through the front, between the hood and grill They are aprox 6" apart.

The latch itself has two locator pins that slide into the front suppoprt behind the grill.

After removing the two screws, gently pry the whole latch away from the support. The hood can be raised, taking the latch with it.

Access to the release lever is behind the latch. It is now exposed.
pull the tiny release lever toward the drivers side and latch will come loose. Good luck!

SOURCE: 3rd door on ford f150 will not open

There was something in the paper, maybe a recall on the latch for the 3rd door. There is a clip inside the door that keeps the lockrod in place. You might want to call the dealer about it. I am not sure you can remove the inside panel without having the door open.

Right I've got an audi 2003 sline the battery died as wasn't using it I popped the hood and jump started it now the hood will not close. It closes to first lock but will not go down all the way.

Sounds like the hood release catch is stuck! Either the cable or the catch itself is stuck open, check the catch and spray some lubricant like WD40 on the catch and visible cable to loosen it!

Hood won t close

Check out the cable connection between the latch and your internal latch control. Till you locate the problem I would suggest tying down the hood with some sort of strap so it does not pop open at speed.

My car hood wont close completely and the hood release is stuck in open position

With the hood up, check the cable and workings for the catch. Some WD 40 will free things up. You may have to spray some on the inside cable, too, if you can see the bare cable going into the housing cable.

The hook on my latch assembly wont grab the loop on my hood.its stuck in the open possition. the cable doesnt return and the handle is loose. the truck is a 97 f-150 pick up.

the hood release cable is stuck inside the plastic sheath, you can try spraying with WD 40 repeatedly and let soak in between cable and sheath and using needle nose pliers gently try to slide cable back and forth but most likely the cable needs to be replaced.

Hood release under the dash has no tension on it. Hood will not latch closed

The latch is stuck in the open position. I always found white lithium grease worked best on those latches but any good lubricant will work. Try moving the latch manually with a screwdriver. After applying the lubricant move the latch a few times. You should see the tension return to the release, if it doesn't you have a broken release cable.

I have a broken hood latch and the hood is down

I think your cable came loose from the latch. try to see it through the grill, maybe you can get to it with a long flat tip screwdriver

My 1995 jaguar xj6 left side of my hood wont open:

O don't know if you can get through the grill, but if you can, you are still going to have the hood stick down by the catch at the front so it won't get you very far. Treating this as a 2 man job may be more successful. One of you needs to be pressing down on the hood directly above the catch (To relieve the pressure on the catch) while the other pumps and jiggles the lever in the car. This may release it. Alternatively (and I don't know about this car in particular, but it will work on some) If you lie under the car, you may be able to see the control cable tor the release, If you can, and you can hook it and pull on it while someone is doing the jiggle and sitting suggested above, the slight stretch of the outer cable may will give you that extra bit of movement on the inner to get it freed off.
