Key fits into ignition but will not turn

Tried multiple keys but will not turn, no problems past, tried wiggling
steering and moved tilt but can not turn the key, wet frozen roads last
nite, but how would that have any effect. any ideas?? tried heating the key.

I have a 1992 Buick LeSabre and I went to start my car and the ignition key would not start the car. I notice that the steering column was locked too. I tried turning the key and the steering column but it didn't work. Any other suggestions.

I truly thank your for your advice but it didn't work. I really appreciate assistance in such a quick manner.

I also tried holding the break pedal down firmly and it didn't work. I even went as far as pouring WD 40 on my key and inserting it and it didn't work as well. I wiggled my steering to the right and it moved a little but when moving it to my left; it wouldn't even move at all. I truly thank you for your suggestions though and you provided expediant answers.

my steering wheel is locked. my key will go in the ignition however it will not turn at all, therefor the steering wheel will not unlock. i tryed unhooking the battery to reset the security alarm. i tryed truning the key and pulling my steeering wheel to the left to unlock the wheel. i tryed reseting it throughthe remote door key. i have had no luck and now my car has no power at all and i checked the connection on battery and that was not it. my battery is less then 30 days old its new and its dead ever since the problem with the steering wheel locking up started

Hi arthajordan, I will take a shot at this one, if you look at your front wheels they are probably turned, If they are turned you need to turn the steering wheel as much as you can, I realize you have wiggled the wheel and the column is locked but you should be able to turn it a little. With it turned and pressure from you turning the wheel try to turn the key. This is just a shot in the dark but I think it will work. Let me know if this helps and please rate this solution. lone99star

You can always try Squirting some Graphite into the Ignition. Has worked before. Any auto parts store Carries it in a Small tube. I hope this works!

SOURCE: key fits into ignition but will not turn

Bad ignition switch. I fixed a problem like that with a 1999 Toyota Sienna. The cylinder is broken in internally. Need the replace tumbler, (just the key part not the electrical part) However it may be hard to get by itself. Good Luck

Could be a problem with the harness going into the key switch or the rod between the lock cylinder and the switch.

'95 rodeo cant turn the key, the key is not stuck, the cylinder is

Try turning the steering wheel while trying to turn the ignition. Didn't work? Can you remove the key? Use some WD40 with the tube and spray a little in. Put the key in, pull it out, repeat several times. Put the key in and wiggle the ignition lock back and forth.(try while wiggling the steering wheel back and forth, too.) Still won't move? Try pulling the key out just a small fraction of an inch and try turning the ignition.

Still no solution, time to give up and call a locksmith.

Key will not turn

When going to turn the key and the wheel is locked, try wiggling the steering wheel left and right while turning the key at the same time.

Cannot turn the key past position 1 in the steering lock

Hi there
Could be simple.
Try this. the steering wheel should turn ever so slightly to one direction if so turn the steering wheel that way and then try the key, start gently and build up on the wiggle force.
It should just be the steering lock working/not working

Ignition key does not turn

have you tried wiggling the steering wheel?

while trying to turn the key, try to wiggle the steering wheel. sometimes, the lock to the steering wheel is preventing the key to turn.
