Question about 1998 Volvo S70

I cracked the plastic component that is attached to the bottom of my radiator - a hose connects to the platic component - Is that plastic piece a part that I can buy and replace or do I need to replace the entire radiator?

I assume you are talking about the lastic side tank on the radiator. A radiator shop can repalce the end tank. Call for a price quote first.

Losing a lot of coolant. I don't see a leak. I started to drain the system and it smells burnt to s**t. What might my problem and possible solutions be?

Water pump -- A bad shaft seal will allow coolant to dribble out of the vent hole just under the water pump pulley shaft. If the water pump is a two-piece unit with a backing plate, the gasket between the housing and back cover may be leaking. The gasket or o-ring that seals the pump to the engine front cover on cover-mounted water pumps can also leak coolant. Look for stains, discoloration or liquid coolant on the outside of the water pump or engine.
Radiator -- Radiators can develop leaks around upper or loser hose connections as a result of vibration. The seams where the core is mated to the end tanks is another place where leaks frequently develop, especially on aluminum radiators with plastic end tanks. On copper/brass radiators, leaks typically occur where the cooling tubes in the core are connected or soldered to the core headers. The core itself is also vulnerable to stone damage. Internal corrosion caused by old coolant that has never been changed can also eat through the metal in the radiator, causing it to leak.
Most cooling systems today are designed to operate at 8 to 14 psi. If the radiator can't hold pressure, your engine will overheat and lose coolant.
Hoses -- Cracks, pinholes or splits in a radiator hose or heater hose will leak coolant. A hose leak will usually send a stream of hot coolant spraying out of the hose. A corroded hose connection or a loose or damaged hose clamp may also allow coolant to leak from the end of a hose. Sometimes the leak may only occur once the hose gets hot and the pinhole or crack opens up.

There are several names of these parts. Rather than ask for clarification I am just going to venture a guess as to the exact one you're looking for.
This LINK will take you to stainless steel hoses listed by Advance Auto. If I am getting you this will be what you're looking for. This hose attaches to the radiator and is called: Spectre Magna-Kool 90 Deg. Radiator Hose End Kit Chrome. This hopefully answers your question and if not just consider it a clarification.

The hose that comes from the radiator to the engine. The nipple that the hose attaches to on the engine is broken... what is that piece called and is it hard to replace


Is it the top or bottom hose? If so, that is the thermostat housing. It is not hard to replace. If it is the bottom hose, it connects to the water pump.

How to change a radiator


1988–91 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Properly drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
  3. Disconnect the fan motor and motor connector.
  4. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  5. Disconnect and plug the automatic transaxle cooling lines at the radiator, if equipped.
  6. Disconnect the coolant reservoir overflow hose.
  7. Remove the radiator attaching bolts and brackets.
  8. Remove the radiator with the cooling fan attached.
  9. Remove the cooling fan and shroud from the radiator. NOTE: Check all cooling system hoses for any signs of damage, leaks or deterioration and replace if necessary. To install:
  10. Attach the cooling fan and shroud to the radiator and install the assembly.
  11. Attach the radiator bolts and brackets. Tighten the radiator bracket bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (10 Nm).
  12. Connect the coolant reservoir overflow hose.
  13. Connect the automatic transaxle cooling lines to the radiator, if equipped.
  14. Connect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
  15. Connect the fan motor and thermo-switch wire connector.
  16. Refill the system with the proper type and quantity of coolant, check for leaks and bleed the cooling system.

Leak undeneath upper radiator hose


Hi:
The radiator on your Focus is mostly plastic on the top and bottom, and the middle section is aluminum/ alloy. If you examine the radiator, and are sure it isn't leaking from the hose connection, then the radiator will need repaired. sometimes, small leaks in the middle , metal section are sealed just by using some radiator stop leak in your engine's coolant. A radiator shop can replace the top or bottom plastic piece on your radiator too, and often it is a good idea to check the price of an entire radiator at your local auto parts store, as sometimes you can buy a radiator for less than the cost to repair your old one.

I have a 2004 Kia Sorento that is leaking antifreeze. The leak is a few drips when the engine is running but pretty much pours out when the engine is shut off. The temp gauge does not show that the engine...


could be one of the two radiator hoses. There are also two hoses in back that go to the heater core. All of these connections attach to plastic nozzles on the radiator and also the ones on the heater core are plastic and can crack. Also check radiator condensor for leaks.

Cracked PLastic Component on bottom of radiator


It maybe welded by a plastic welder. Best thing is to find one in the phone book and see if they can weld that type of plastic, otherwise its a new radiator sorry to say . i hope this helps.
