Question about 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 Club Cab
I have a Dodge Ram 1500 single cab pickup. okay, this is the fourth time i have ran out of gas in my tuck because my gas gauge hasnt worked since i bought the truck about 10 months ago. the second time it ran out of gas a check engine light stayed on til i unplugged the battery, then it was fine. this time the only way i could get it to even start was to spray starting fuid into the intake. then it would die right away. before it ran out of gas it ran perfectly. could i have burned my fuel pump up, or is there a chance its a relay? or is it something else.
Somtimes when you run our of gas it sucks up all the grit/particles in the bottom of the tank which may have clogged the the pump filter, the pump itself or the fuel filter (in the engine bay) or the line. It could be the fact that its the forth time you've run our of gas may have semi blocked it and its had to work overtime to produce the desired fuel pressure(like you say may have burnt it out).Get someone to turn the key to the on position(dash lights come on) while you squeeze the fuel hose coming off the fuel rail, if you can feel it expand the fuel pump is ok, if you dont it needs attention. I would replace the fuel filter while your at as im sure there'd be a fair amount of dirt/debris in there.
