I have a 1998 Isuszu Trooper. The engine light is on. Last night the engine light was blinking on and off. This morning I noticed that when I come to a stop or ease up off the brake it starts shaking as if it is going to stall.

Re: Engine Light Is On
Hmm...I suspect you have an injector problem. The injector connectors are inside the crankcasing, and as such are constantly sprayed with oil It is possible that a seal on a connector has gone, or a connector isnt clipped properly. This gives both the engine fault light and the 'shaking' which is the car running on three cylinders...the 3.0 engine is surprisingly good at running on three cylinders... Either take off the turbo, insulation jacket, coolant pipe and crankcase and clean the connectors & refit, or go find a mechanic! The job is quite an involved one that needs much confidence...

that is called a STALL.
the engine was running , but now its STALLED.
and all lamps come on that is a Feature of all cars. (modern)
the that is the lamp self test. same as when you first turn on the key.
the operators guide explains all that...........
so the real question is why it stalls.
it means the engine is running so bad the EFI brain could not avoid the stall, it tries REAL HARD not to stall.
we do tests to find true cause. but usually its this.
1: engine never tuned up. the 60,000mile service POINTS skipped.
hark it fails. (99% of all old cars do that, due to skips)
2: LOST spark , see #1
3: lost fueling, see #1 filters. or worse.
4: flooding, over fueling. more tests.
Could be a broken motor mount. Not uncommon to break one. However, for it to shake badly you may have just broken a second motor mount.
If the service center is close by, I would likely take the chance and drive it. I just wouldn't accelerate hard - and I would be very gentle. That is just my opinion - can't be "for sure" without knowing more.
You need to get the computer scanned. This can be done at Auto Zone or similar parts stores free of charge. More than likely you will just need new spark plugs and/or plug wires but I cannot be certain without the engine code.
Hope this helps, remember to rate this answer.
f the light is on steady it is prob one of the emission sysytem's like 02 sensor.. as long as light is not blinking ok to drive till fixed..
Clear light by: taking batt cable off for about 3 min and prees your foot on break while cable is off.. then put cable back on.. light will go off for a while but as soon as it sees the problem again it will come on
