Climate control eatc trouble code 12 and 49 any clues

Electronic automatic temp control is computerized and has trouble codes.12 and 49 came up but I dont know what they mean.

You can take it to a dealer and have them run a diagnostic on it or simply ask them, you can also buy a tester at autozone that will tell you what is going on

Electronic Automatic Temperature Control System
The electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) system operation is determined by the settings on the EATC module. The EATC system automatically maintains a selected temperature for vehicle interior comfort, including capabilities to maintain separate temperature settings for the driver and front passenger. The electronic temperature control capabilities are achieved by splitting the air distribution system internally and utilizing 2 individually operated temperature blend doors. The EATC system is composed of the EATC module, automatic temperature control (ATC) solenoid and manifold, blower motor speed control, 4 vacuum control motors, 2 temperature blend door actuators, in-car temperature sensor, ambient air temperature sensor and solar amplifier (sunload sensor) to control the various functions. The electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) system must be diagnosed by first retrieving any DTCs, if present.
  • An on-demand (hard fault) DTC indicates that the fault is currently present. An on-demand DTC suggests a wiring fault, disconnected connector or component failure.
  • A continuous (intermittent) DTC alone (corresponding on-demand DTC is not present) indicates that the fault is an intermittent condition and may not be currently present. A continuous only DTC suggests a poor wiring connection, loose pin or terminal or intermittent component failure.
On-demand (hard fault) or continuous (intermittent fault) DTCs can be retrieved using a diagnostic tool. If using a diagnostic tool, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
On-demand DTCs can also be retrieved by carrying out the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module On-Demand Self Test. To retrieve and/or clear continuous DTCs carry out the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module - Retrieve Continuous DTCs procedure. check your fuses first. You may have blown one.

  • Battery junction box (BJB) F26 (65A).
  • Central junction box (CJB) F33 (20A), F36 (7.5A), F37 (10A), F39 (20A), F45 (15A), F47 (15A), F58 (10A) or F59 (7.5A).
  • Blower motor inoperative.
  • A/C compressor inoperative.
  • Disconnected electrical connectors.
  • Engine cooling fan inoperative.
  • Damaged control switch(es) or climate control panel.
  • Circuitry open or shorted.

Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module Self-Test
  • NOTE: The vehicle interior and exterior temperatures should be between 10° - 32.2°C (50° - 90°F) when carrying out the self-test. If the temperature is not within the specified range, false in-vehicle temperature sensor DTCs will be displayed.
    The EATC module self-test will detect concerns in the system control functions and will display hard diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) in addition to continuous diagnostic trouble codes for concerns that occur during system operation.
  • The self-test can be initiated at any time. Normal operation of the system stops when the self-test is activated.
  • NOTE: The key must be in the RUN position to enter the self-test.
    To enter the self-test, press the OFF and floor position buttons simultaneously and then press the AUTOMATIC button within two seconds. The display will show a pulse tracer around the center of the display window. The test may run as long as 30 seconds. Record all DTCs displayed.
  • If any DTCs are retrieved during the self-test, proceed to Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (EATC) Module Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index.

I have f150 kingranch 2005 ...i have two problems 1)the 4*4 will not engaged regardless of the rotary elect sw postion no sound under and no light...2)the ac when i switch it on the compressor will run but...


The 4WD issue
Operationally vacuum holds the IWE ( Integrated Wheel Ends ) out, and once vac is removed the spring engages the IWE.

Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc )
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

- If the front drive shaft does not turn :
Shut of the truck ( still jacked up, and supported ) remove the vac lines from the IWE. The spring should push the gears in, without the vac line on.
Check the vent line ( tube that is routed into the engine compartment with nothing attached to it ), for blockages.
If the vent line is clear, and with the vac lines off the IWE should be engaged ( both front wheels locked ).
If they lock, the problem is with the IWE solenoid not shutting off vacuum to the IWEs. There is a TSB on the 2004-2006 IWE solenoids, a newer revision has been made, and used from 2007 and newer MYs.

The fan issue, is this just with the AC or with the heat / vent also ?
The KR has the EATC ( Electronic Auto Temp Control ) HVAC system, so the blower motor speed is controlled by the Front blower motor speed control. This is mounted where the Blower motor resistor is located ( for the EMTC HVAC ) and could be the cause of the issue.

Try the EATC self test :
Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module On-Demand Self-Test The EATC module on-demand self-test will retrieve on-demand (hard fault) DTCs only, it will not retrieve continuous DTCs. Continuous DTCs can be cleared when exiting the EATC module on-demand self-test. Make sure to retrieve continuous DTCs by carrying out the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module - Retrieve Continuous DTCs procedure before clearing any continuous DTCs.


•The EATC module on-demand self-test will not detect concerns associated with data link messages like engine coolant temperature or vehicle speed signals. A diagnostic tool must be used to retrieve these concerns.
•The EATC module on-demand self-test will detect concerns in the system control functions and will display on-demand (hard fault) DTCs for concerns that are present during the self-test. The vehicle interior temperature should be between 4°-38°C (40°-100°F) when performing the self-test. If the temperatures are not within the specified ranges, false DTCs may be displayed.
•The self-test can be initiated after cycling the ignition switch from OFF to ON. Normal operation of the climate control system stops when the self-test is activated.
•To enter the self-test, press the OFF and DEFROST buttons simultaneously and release, then press the AUTO button within 2 seconds . The display will show a flashing blower icon for 20 seconds , after which all vacuum fluorescent segments will be displayed if there are no on-demand DTCs present. If DTCs are present the EATC module will display "00 00" and then on-demand DTCs. Record all DTCs displayed.
•If any DTCs appear during the self-test, carry out the diagnostic procedure. Refer to the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module Diagnostic Trouble Code Index and follow the ACTION for each DTC given. See: Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions

1.Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2.Disconnect the EATC or EMTC module electrical connectors.
3.Wait one minute .
4.Connect the EATC or EMTC module electrical connectors.
5.Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
6.Select any position except OFF on the EATC or EMTC module. The EATC or EMTC module will now initialize and calibrate the mode doors. Calibration of the mode doors will take approximately 30 seconds .

You can try removing the panel connectors, resetting it and running the calibration test.

Open the ashtray, and pull on each lower cover of the center trim panel. This is held on with spring clips, 3 on each side ( black circles in the picture below ). When you get to the top, be careful, the Passenger Side Airbag Deactivation lamp is on the center trim panel and has small wires ( green circle ).
The blue circles are the cam over connectors on the HVAC control panel, pivot the bail out, and the connector wil unplug itself. Reattach and run the self test calibrate ( if it will take it ) listed below the picture.

My air conditioner does not work on my 2005 f150. All the display lights turn on at the same time and none of the buttons will control air or heat. Please advise.


I would start with disconnecting the EATC / EMTC ( Electronic Automatic / Manual Temperature Control ) panel.

Open the ash tray, and pull each lower corner out, they are held on with spring clips. Working your way up the center trim panel, there are 6 ( 3 on each side- black circles in the picture above ).
When you get to the top, be cautious, the Passenger side airbag deactivation lamp has small wires on it, don't pull too hard ( green circle above )
On the back of the EATC / EMTC panel are 2 cam over connectors ( blue circles in the picture above ), release the cam tab, and they will disconnect.
When you reconnect it, it will default to off. Next is to run the self test calibration process ( pay attention to the temperature range ).

I have found some times the EATC / EMTC panel will just freeze up, and disconnecting it, and recalibrating it will make it work again. Few of them have not seen a problem again in 2+ years.
Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module On-Demand Self-Test The EATC module on-demand self-test will retrieve on-demand (hard fault) DTCs only, it will not retrieve continuous DTCs. Continuous DTCs can be cleared when exiting the EATC module on-demand self-test. Make sure to retrieve continuous DTCs by carrying out the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module - Retrieve Continuous DTCs procedure before clearing any continuous DTCs.


•The EATC module on-demand self-test will not detect concerns associated with data link messages like engine coolant temperature or vehicle speed signals. A diagnostic tool must be used to retrieve these concerns.

I assume you have checked all fuses. It could be the heater control switch , the blower motor resister , I would start testing if power is getting pass the switch to the blower motor.

Heater displays everything but you cannot turn anything on ac will not turn on neither will the heat the buttons will not even light up please help


From the equipment description, I take this to be a EATC ( Electronic Automatic Temperature Control ) system.

You can try to run the EATC diagnostic test & recalibrate ( once you have confirmed it is not a fuse )

•To retrieve continuous DTCs, press the OFF and DEFROST buttons simultaneously and release, then press the RECIRC button within 2 seconds . All vacuum fluorescent segments will be displayed if there are no continuous DTCs present. Continuous DTCs are indicated by the presence of the degrees Celsius symbol (°C) on the EATC module display. Record all DTCs displayed.

To carry out the cold boot process, follow the steps below.

1.Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2.Disconnect the EATC or EMTC module electrical connectors.
3.Wait one minute .
4.Connect the EATC or EMTC module electrical connectors.
5.Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
6.Select any position except OFF on the EATC or EMTC module. The EATC or EMTC module will now initialize and calibrate the mode doors. Calibration of the mode doors will take approximately 30 seconds .

Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module On-Demand Self-Test The EATC module on-demand self-test will retrieve on-demand (hard fault) DTCs only, it will not retrieve continuous DTCs. Continuous DTCs can be cleared when exiting the EATC module on-demand self-test. Make sure to retrieve continuous DTCs by carrying out the Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module - Retrieve Continuous DTCs procedure before clearing any continuous DTCs.


•The EATC module on-demand self-test will not detect concerns associated with data link messages like engine coolant temperature or vehicle speed signals. A diagnostic tool must be used to retrieve these concerns.
•The EATC module on-demand self-test will detect concerns in the system control functions and will display on-demand (hard fault) DTCs for concerns that are present during the self-test. The vehicle interior temperature should be between 4°-38°C (40°-100°F) when performing the self-test. If the temperatures are not within the specified ranges, false DTCs may be displayed.
