Your best bet is to look into timing belt either breaking or jumping teeth.

DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HEARD A LOUD "SPRING NOISE" AND MY 2020 KIA SPORTAGE JUST DIED. WHAT COULD THIS BE?

Maybe the timing belt ?
If it is a broken belt, you may have engine damage too.

could be timing belt.....dont keep trying to start because if timing is out your can bend valves and damage pistons by doing so...have it checked out by mechanic........good luck

My car quit running driving down the road, does a 2005 kia rio have a timing belt?

Yes it does have a timing belt but should be checked for fuel pressure and spark. How many miles are on this engine?

2001 Kia was runing fine then just died it cranks but will not start

If you have not replaced the timing belt and your car has 50,000 miles or more the problem is a broken timing belt. I don't know the exact reason but Kia timing belts will not last more than 60,000 miles.
