Question about 1998 Chevrolet C1500

1 Answer

1998 C1500 left front brake locks up.

I have 1998 Chevy C1500 5.0 2WD with 151k miles. The left front caliper wants to partially lock and drag. I have the replaced the caliper twice in the past three weeks. This helps but the issue returns. The truck tugs to the left when moving and then to the right when the brakes are pressed. Brake pads have less than 5k on them. Any thoughts on the brake "brain" going out? Thanks

Try replacing the brake hose to that caliper, they collapse on the inside.

What is causing left front caliper to continually fail. Is it related to anti lock brake system?

The hose could be collapsed internally holding residual pressure and keping the pads applied. Also make sure that the caliper is sliding free side to side.

Front brakes not releasing properly.

Sounds like the caliper needs replaced. Sometimes the pistons lock in the caliper and cause the brakes to drag. When the mechanic changed the brakes before, he pushed the pistons in all the way to accomodate the new brake pads. Now that they are wearing back down, it is getting to the warped spot in the caliper and starting to stick.

I have a 1998 town and country with traction control and the brakes drag after a few miles most notably the left front(smoke and melt caliper). I have replaced the calipers and rotors twice but this still...

I had a similar problem with my anti-lock brake.
One of the will wear down. I took it to the dealer, could not tell why.
Until one day the a brake light came on. It was a bad sensor. Replace the bad sensor and the problem went away.
The mechanic plug a portable instrument and drive the car around until he find out. (The brake light came on, then off.)
This anti-lock brake system is control by sensors and it one is not functioning properly then you have a problem.
I do hope this help you.
