Question about 1997 Cadillac Seville

1 Answer

Dying out while stopped or somtimes turining..

I have a 1997 Cadilliac it dies out while it is in park while idleing or at stop sings or stop lights. Also it has died out while making slow turns, the car wont die out as long as your foot is on the gas to rev up the rpms while at a stop. I figured this is very ******* my transmision and want to get the problem identified and fixed. I was told by a autozone employee it could be the alternator or battery due to the fact as i turn it pulls juice from the power steering so it could be my alternator or power steering.

I think that it might have something to do with your fuel pressure first thing i would check is if your fuel pump might be going out

Batteries keep dying

The idle is controlled by the engine computer through the idle air control valve. This valve will be mounted on the throttle body assembly-where the big air boot from air filter attaches. This valve can get deposits built up, restricting idle air flow to the engine. Take it off and clean it, and the air passages it sits over. Be looking also for a vacuum or air leak. Check the ends of the vacuum hoses for splitting or cracks that leak.

Will start, then stops. stops when put in gear

sounds like the idle is set way too low on it.. there should be an idle screw on the trottle body.. just turn ut clock wise and it will slowly increase the idle rpm. make sure you do it in park though with the vehicle running. once it reaches 750 to 900 rpm stop and try it then it should stop dying..

Truck has been dying surging and dying when i come to stop at li

Try shifting to nuetral at stop signs for now. Will it keep running in gear with you foot on the brake? How about with the parking brake? You may have a simple vacuum leak at the brake booster.

1993 grand prix dying

provided you don't have a vacuum leak, (check all hoses for tightness and cracks with engine running) it's probably your idle air control valve or sensor.

Idle air control

all the sudden the check engine light came on and it started to idle funny and dying at stops. I had a diagnostic done on it and changed out the idle air control valve but it doent seem any different. and the check engine light is still throwing the same code. we adjusted the idle up so i could drive it with out it dying but it is still acting funny.
