Digital dash My daughter has a problem with her 1989 cutlass supreme. I just put over $800 into it to make it drivable and now the digital dashboard blinks on and off or sometimes it doesn't even light up. Any ideas?

Should be under the dash just to the left of the steering column, sometimes, if you have 2 flashers, you can turn on the emergency flashers and listen and feel for the click, your turn signal flasher is usually right next to the emergency flasher.

Check/replace signal flasher. Hazard and signals are on different flashers.

CHECK THE HAZARD/FLASHER IN THE FUSE BOX CHECK OWNER MANUAL IF YOU HAVE IT

Check your fuse box does it have a breaker or a fuse for the dash cluster? Might be a bad breaker or some corrosion on contacts /

most likely its your muti-funtion switch in the steering column.but first check your turn signal flasher & your emergency flasher

Follow the AC switch under the dash panel until you come to the fuse box, you will find the box and the blown fuse during this procedure... OR call your Olds dealer OR visit an Auto wrecking yard as they sometimes have them available from Junk vehicles at a price however.. UR Velcum

It sounds like it is the wiring harness for the dash. You will have to take the dash out very carefully clean the contacts on the harness with electrical cleaner and then reinstall.

It is not the computer.

If you take the dash apart and remove the digital insturment panel.., use a soldering iron and re-tin.., or heat the solder connections on the back of the circuit board.., just enough to briefly melt the solder.., to re-establish good electrical connections. You specifically want to pay attention to the IC Chip on the circuit board.., which is a 14 pin IC chip that is Black in color.., and measures about 5/16" x 3/4" usually labelled IC2 on the printed circuit board. You can start with this component and re-try connecting to the harness in the dash to see if it works.., if it works.., great.., if not.., just go ahead and re-tin all of the solder connections on the back of the circuit board. The 14-Pin IC Chip is usually the main source of the problems with this digital dash panel.

The digital dash was a huge problems for those old cars. The only repair is to replace or have them repaired
