. is this a definite sign of the VVT actuator. Still really needing help! Sincerely, Bonnie

  • Bonnie Dec 05, 2012

The beginning of that was to say, no codes and check engine light not on. There is not oil going to the right side of the engine. is this a positive sign of it being the VVT actuator?

I can't tell you from the internet what is wrong with you vehicle Someone has to actually diagnose the issues & need the vehicle to do so

Thank you Peter, Fully understand. I did find out that this vehicle doesn't have a VVT do to it have a belt not chain. Also found out it must be something clogging the area. So much work needing to BD done. All we need now is luck. Thanks again. Bonnie

96 Ford Ranger 2.3L ticking sound. Comes and goes. Puff of white smoke coming from exhaust only on initial start up. Slight rough idle.

The noise is lifters, the smoke is valve seals. This engine is showing signs of wear on the top end.

Theres a knocking /ticking sound on right side of 04 ram 1500

If you have not been too good about doing oil changes clogged lifters is very possible. There are many products to flush your oil, but what I prefer is to change your oil and filter , put in 1 quart of marvel mystery oil in place of one qt of oil, run for about 100 miles then change oil and filter again

A ticking sound on a 06 ford f150 super crew 5.4L

Ticking sound could be coming from a Coil-on-Plug, or a pcv valve, or (hope it's not) a valve lifter which could be sticking. Sticking lifter noise often disappears when rpm's change, or the noise comes & goes. try changing the motor oil & filter right after adding an Engine-Flush Treatment to the motor oil, running the engine for 10 minutes at idle with treatment added to the oil, then draining the oil & changing filter while oil is still very hot. That last part is very important, so be careful not to burn your hands - be careful. -- The sticking lifter is a likely cause if motor oil has not been changed at frequent intervals in the past (every 3-4K miles) -- dirty oil causes sticking lifters.

My 2002 Envoy is making a ticking sound that nobody seems to diagnose. ive been told eberything form a lifter to a bad timming chain. Its throwing no codes and runs fine?

will try to help. upper enginr noise can be several things, but i'll try to keep it simple. when was oil last changed and what was weight? ask your self? the lighter the weight in hot weather, the higher the oil pump sends it. don't know how cold it is where you are, but, to assure you get premium top engine lubrication, i do recommend LUCAS OIL TREATMENT BE ADDED TO YOUR NEXT OIL CHANGE, this will take some of your doubt away about top end lubrication. you mat hear LIFTER TAP it very well be a timing chain tapping against the timing chain cover,BUT has it lost power any at all?does it miss or lose power during accelleration?if the timing chain JUMPS TIME it will not start, or if it does, you'll know it for sure. either won't start, or start and you'll have to keep foot on gas with it jumping like crazy! WANT MY RECOMMENDATION? IF IT'S ABOVE FREEZING, RUN 10W30 OIL AND ADD LUCAS OIL TREATMENT W/FRAM OIL FILTER,,,,USE,,CASTROL OIL BELOW FREEZING? USE 5W3O WEIGHT CASTROL OIL WFRAM OIL FILTER AND ADD LUCAS OIL TREATMENT!! THE LIFE OF YOUR MOTOR, DEPENDS ON FRESH OIL AND A GOOD OIL FILTER. AND AS ALWAYS if i have'nt helped or given you the assistance you requested, please repost yor question and an expert will be happy to assist! thank you for choosing fixya.com!!

I have a ticking in the top of motor sound like it,s in the head

YOU HEAR VALVE LIFTERS.MOST TIME YOU HEAR VALVE LIFTER NOISE.LIFTERS ARE WORN OUT OR OIL + FILTER COULD NEED CHANGING.BECAUSE DIRTY OIL WILL STOP UP LIFTERS CAUSE THEM BE NOISEY.YOU CAN ADD BOTTLE OF MARVEL MYSTERY OIL IT WILL HELP QUIET DOWN NOISEY LIFTERS.

Engine ticking, The engine has a tick in it sounds like a lifter possibly. The car has 208000 miles on it.

SOUND LIKE WORN LIFTERS OR DIRT TRAPPED LIFTERS.YOU CAN TRY CHANGE ENGINE OIL AND FILTER.YOU CAN PUT A BOTTLE OF LIFTER QUIETNER.BLEND SOME IN CRANKCASE DONT OVERFILL.IT WILL CLEAN AND FREE UP LIFTERS.IF LIFTERS STILL NOISEY.YOU HAVE TO REPLACE CAMSHAFT + LIFTERS + BEARINGS DEPEND ON HOW BAD WORN.

Ticking in engine after oil change

this ticking problem is probably your hydraulic lifters, when the oil is drained they also drained and they sometimes take a while to bleed so they may be noisy... the noise should be coming from the top of the engine...

I would just check that you put in the right oil aswell just incase, if the oil was to thin it may be a little noisy.. its definately a good idea to make sure the right oil was put in (e.g. 40w-50) < this is the viscosity of the oil and to find out just ask someone in you auto parts store what oil a 92 geo storm should take...

but if the noise goes away after a drive then it was just the lifters and is not a big prob

2000 olds van 3.4l engine started ticking Top end? Started suddenly last weekend. 220 000 klicks. timing belt slipped a tooth???

sounds to me maybe a sticky lifter and not building up with oil pressure, try adding 2 quarts of clean diesel fuel to your oil and let idle for about 10-15 minutes,if the ticking stops then change the oil and filter, then it was the lifter not building up with oil pressure
