Question about 2000 Chevrolet S-10
I would bet the farm it's somehow related to the "illumination" wire. This wire is tied to the dash lights so that the factory (and aftermarket, if so equipped) radio will dim it's display when you cut the headlights on. As a side note, YOU ALSO DO NOT HAVE TAIL LIGHTS!! On your vehicle, as well as MANY others, the tail lights are tied into the dash lights. It's on purpose so that people will know their tail lights are out. Anyway, if you short the "illumination" wire, or otherwise hook it up in a way it doesn't like, it will pop the fuse in the fuse box. And for people who rely on the pre-fab harnesses, I have had one where all the colors were stuck into the wrong positions on the plug and it caused all kinds of craziness. This is rare I admit, but do not discount it when troubleshooting because I promise you, it absolutely can happen....

first the flashing light means that it is trying to go into 4wd. as far as i know there is no adjustment. The shift motor may be bad, If the transfer case is shifting it could be the silinod in the front differantal.

SOURCE: My dash lights don't work.
this got easy after a while 2 ways, i had friends who would not take the time to spend 8dollars to buy a harness connector for a new cd player and would splice everything together like takeing the red and yellow wires and connecting them all together as one. this drains ur battery unless ur cd player can completly power down by the power button not all do... but keep this in mind on GM cars the 2 wires of the same wires like purple the one with a black stripe is ground they go together stripe on stripe also there is 2 extra wires one is ORANGE and BROWN u dont need these dont even mess with them even if u have a connector block them off THESE TWO COLORS IS FOR FACTORY STEREO IF SO THESE WIRES CAN AND WILL MAKE IT SO U DONT HAVE DASH LIGHTS so always buy a connector ond dont mess with these wires block them off and dont ground them out.
