If you have two heater cores on your van, the front heater core may be stopped up by rust or stop leak if any has been put in it. It is a common problem i have seen. or your blendoor

Where is the location of the thermostat 2001 chev silverado 5.3 engine

The thermostat housing is where the lower radiator hose attaches to the engine with two bolts. Be sure to drain the antifreeze first and replace the thermostat housing gasket when installing.

I smell coolant when I turn on the heater in my 2001 Silverado. The heater will not get hot.

Your heater core is clogged, leaking, and/or going bad. If it was anything else in the cooling/heating system, you would not have the antifreeze odor. The heater core is located under the glove box. I hope this helps and good luck.

check for a wet tailpipe, which might indicate a leak between water jacket & combustion chamber.i.e.headgasket.check heater hose isn't leaking onto exhaust manifold,'cooking' the anti-freeze as it leaks.
