Question about 1994 Honda Accord

1 Answer

94 honda accord lx, has a code 14. Changed the IAC valve and it went away. Drove it around on highway and stop and go traffic, worked great, just started it again and the code 14 is back and car shut

Just changed the Distributor and cap, wires and coil. The code was there before the other fixes.

The code is for a faulty idle air control valve, or faulty computer.
The computer can not control the idle speed by using the valve.
Could be a wiring problem, vac leak, or computer issue.

Thanks, any thoughts on how to check for vac leak or computer issue. I closed the hood and the car stopped working.

Pulled the main relay and it tested okay, I keep hearing a clicking or tripping of relay switches only sometimes from under the dash, could that be part of the problem? Trying to isolate the noise but no success yet.

A mechanic would test the wiring plug from the computer for voltage and the general operation of the valve. Anything is possible, but I doubt a relay would be involved. The computer applies voltage to both sides of the motor in the valve to open and close it. If the computer can not control idle speed the code is set.

Try removing the ignition module, usually located right under the coil pack, and having it tested at Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts.

Check for a vacuum leak somewhere. When you have pressure by going faster it will not be a problem but if slow it will cause a problem. TLT

Air filter, ECU, O2 sensor, bad EGR valve, or clogged cat converter.

Onboard diagnostic computer should be throwing codes. Autozone can check these free (as will other part stores).
