Question about 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais
When this happens, doe the engine get really hot/overheat, feeling like it has no power at all? If so, the catalytic converter is most likely your culprit.

well I cant tell you that, given your location there would be different pricing, but a good thing to do is call around and get prices from several places, and get prices for just the strut without installation. this will give you a better idea of what is acceptable. I usually charge 75.00 per set (front or rear), when they buy the parts. there is what is called a ready strut, and it is a complete assembly with strut/spring, and upper mount all ready to install. they range from about 180.00, to 285.00. hope this helps.

EGR circuit malfunction. Your exhaust gas recirculation valve is not operating properly. The valve opens under certain conditions (mostly off idle) to recirculate exhaust gases back through the intake and through the cylinders, to lower combustion temperatures for cleaner emissions.
Often the valve itself, or the passages under it, get clogged with carbon build-up and cease operation. Take the valve off and clean it with a wire brush and maybe a small blade. If you push up on the valve's diaphragm, you should see the pintle on the bottom of the valve raise with the diaphragm. If it doesn't work right, replace the valve (a salvage unit should work). Also take the blade and clean out the passages of carbon. Clean them as best you can so the passages are not clogged up. Then put the valve back on with a new gasket, if needed.
Some people just do away with the egr valve when it stops operating, by taking off the vacuum line to it and plugging the vacuum line off. Then the valve cannot open. Sometimes the valve gets stuck open, resulting in the engine idling poorly.
