I would like to add to my original question that this 4.6 motor has two timing chains and no timing belt. I was looking for the timing marks for the cams, but I don't know where they are located. I found the top dead center mark for the crankshaft, but no marks for the camshaft. I found out that before you take timing chains off you should use a special tool that Ford provides, so they won't move, but I neglected to do that and the cams moved.

What you have to do is clean the chain very well you are looking for 2 links that are different colors than the rest (bronze colored ) count the links between the two rotate the cam 2 12:00 with the dowel pin up or the dot on the edge of the pulley put the chain on with the links on each mark and set the tensioners in place

SOURCE: putting on timing belt .

The crank has got to be at TDC, with the marks lined up, the cams have to be lined up to their marks, then the belt will line up, If it doesn't line up, You will be walking home. If you have the old belt handy and the marks are still visible, compare them to the new belt, make sure they are the same. Pull the pin on the belt tensioner and you should be all set. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: I have a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis with a 4.6L

Best bet for you is to purchase a vehicle specific repair manual from your local auto parts store.

It will contain all the needed information to complete this task.

SOURCE: My PRNDL don't work, loose shift indicator won't go into gear. Plenty of transmission fluid, no obvious wear or breakage, what do I do now?

When you turn the key to the ON position are there any instrument lights on the dash? Does the radio work? If not, dead battery.

Chevy 2.8 1993 s10' timing chain and gears installing

Replacing the chain and gears requires removing the water pump, dropping the oil pan, removing the balancer and timing cover. Rotate the crank so the dots on the cam gear and crank gear line up at the 6 and 12 o clock positions respectively. Unbolt the cam gear and remove it and the chain. If you need to remove the crank gear you can use a three jaw puller or something similar to pull it off. Reinstall the crank gear lining up the gear with the keyway on the crank and press it on with the appropriate tool. Install the cam gear with the chain and make sure dots line up again. It may be necessary to remove the valve covers and rocker arms as well to rotate the cam shaft if need be.

If you have a timeing chain you have timeing gears witch have marks on them .These marks need to line up even if you have to remove the chain or the gear don't turn the crank or the cam the gears have key ways that olny let them slide in the shafts in 1 spot the chain will go on in any pisition .

How do i set timing chian marks

The marks are on the crank and cam gears. They either have a mark on the head that coincides with the mark on the cam gear AND you set that AND then bring the crank shaft gear to TDC on the timing marks OR you have both marks on the gears and you line them up with each other using a straight edge through the center of the shafts, then you put the chain on.

Timing chain marks needed for Audi A4 B9 1.8tfsi 2009 model. Engine was taken out and settings not marked. This is extremelyurgent. Please help

diagrams I have show a twin cam set up with 2 balancing shafts. The marks on the cam shaft point to (left cam shaft 11 oclock the mark on the right point to the 1 oclock position. The chain will have 3 black links-- the top black links will be at the timing marks on the shafts with the 3rd black link directly at 6 oclock facing a mark on the gear. The balancer marks both point to the 1 oclock position with black links on each and the 3rd black link will be facing a mark to the 7 oclock position on the crankahaft gear. Everything is done with the piston at TDC no 1 cylinder so get it there before you put the cam shafts in position or you will bend valves. Crank shaft gear is not keyed to the crank shaft. there are dots on the right hand balancer shaft gears and these dots will be as the 2 dots on adjacent teeth either side of a dot on the meshing gear. I suppose that is all as clear as mud but if you got this far then you will see the marks and marked links on the chains

That motor has a timing chain, not a timing belt. Replacing it requires removing the water pump, dropping the oil pan, removing the balancer and timing cover.
