There are linkages or cables that run under the car to the transaxle.look under the hood on the drivers side on top of the trans and you should see them.If it is an automatic you will only see one and can be adjusted.

Won't shift out of park. I started the car as normal but when I moved the shifter from park to drive it felt really loose and then it wouldn't go anywhere when I gave it some gas. I then tried to put it...

Pull the cover off the base of the shifter and check that the release lever is connected and the connection pins from the shift lever to the transmission are tight. Safely block the car up and look underneth the car at the transmision looking for loose parts.

Manual transmission shift linkage break in 96 f150

You best bet is to take it apart, remove everything
from the truck & either make something, weld something
or go to a salvage yard & match up what pieces you need

I have a 98 chevy cavalier 2.2L and need to replace shifter cable how difficult is it?

Kind of a pain in the neck - especially if you are not real inclined..

You have to take apart portions of the console to get at the cable where it connects to the shifter.. And disconnect the old cable at the shifter and at the trani linkage under-neath..

Not a real fun job..

Have a great day !

Break lights won't work. Changed the fuses and bulbs and they only work every once in a while. Noticed a clicking sound in the dash under the gear shifter. Relay or Switch possibly?

It sounds like you need a new brake switch. The brake switch that contorls the circuit is located underneth your brake pedal.

Shifter linkage came apart from transmission shift arm

I had the same problem and also linkage inside the car. I took ball joint apart and cleaned the surface then put silicone inside ball joint. Joined the two together then I put plastic tie wraps for wiring around the ball joints, two per ball joint. Let sit for 24 hours and it worked. It is probably temporary but it got me out of a $165 an hour repair job 500 miles from home. Hope this works for you as it tightens up the linkage and worked great. CW

1988 Olds Cutless Ciera transmission linkage

I took the console apart so I could see what the scene was. The release button would not rease the shifter lever so I took the cable connection off, which freed up the lever. The transmission was in second gear when I turned off the engine the day before so I moved the now freed lever to the second gear position and then reconnected the cable connectors to the shifter connection. The cable and the shifter mechanism now being in sinc allowed me to put the shifter in Park and start the engine. I have tested the vehicle and the all the gears can be shifted normally.
