Question about 1996 Chevrolet K1500
Probably shift interlock on the steering column or the parking pawl in the trans could be stuck. I've seen the shift cable housing break on these, too. You will have to crawl under the truck to see if the cable is broken between the trans and floor where it comes through.

if the fittings aren't different sizes to help you out, it will be the fitting furthest from the frame, closest to the rad. or engine. all gm trucks are like this.

When you say ign sw,do you mean the key and tumbler or the ign sw under the dash?
the key and tumbler needs the steering wheel removed then you will clearly see a small screw remove it and the switch slides out.
Now if under, remove the knee bolster and you will see the switch on the side of the steering column tahe the two wire harness out remove the two screws and reverse for install.
