Car Shakes Violently On 1St Gear

Toyota 3A Engine,T40 Trany. After a dead stop at a red light and when i put the gear to the 1st and try to go forward the car starts to rattle like crazy the whole car shakes almost stalling the engine and when I try to slowly release the clutch same prob I can even hear the drive shaft shaking then after accelerating foot down and slowly releasing the clutch helps. But starting from the 2nd is fine a little rattle and it goes fine after that shifting isn't a issue at all. What is causing this ? Cooked clutch , fly wheel ? Cheers.     Yeah, it's a good probability that it's the throw out bearing or broken fingers on the pressure plate face. Either way, you'll have to drop the inspection plate, if there is one, otherwise you will have to pull the trany back and have a look to see what is happening. If the bearing or the fork is the problem, you may as well change the clutch plate at the same time, depending how many miles is on the vechicle.

It sounds like you have a blown throw out bearing for the clutch operation. Fix it soon or you'll do a whole lot more damage to the drivetrain.

SOURCE: Saturn Ion shakes when started.

I would take the vehicle in to a mechanic.
There could be damage internally with the engine.
or the transmission.

SOURCE: The engine in my 96 saturn wagon shakes when it is put into gear, reverse or drive.

remove the belt and spin all of the pulleys by hand to make sure they all spin freely. the knocking noise is probebly a pulley locked up.

Hi there:
When the light comes on, one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) are stored in the engine control module. These DTCs remain even if the light goes out. To address a Check Engine Light problem, the DTCs are retrieved and the appropriate troubleshooting information is followed in order to determine the problem.

The four most common Check Engine Light scenarios and what to do:
* The Check Engine Light turns on and off or flickers.
If the Check Engine Light comes on in the city but goes off on the freeway, then the fault is present during city driving conditions. Pay attention to whether or not the vehicle runs or drives any differently when the Check Engine Light illuminates. If vehicle performance does change, drive the car as little as possible and take it to be checked by a service professional as soon as possible. If there is no change in vehicle performance, you can drive home, but have it inspected as soon as possible. In this condition, you run a risk of the vehicle dying or not starting.

* The Check Engine Light comes on and stays on.
If the Check Engine Light illuminates constantly during driving with no noticeable driving or performance problems, there is a permanent fault in the emission control system. When this happens, the computer that controls the emission system usually has a backup program that runs while the fault is present. (These backup programs are often referred to as "limp home" mode programs.) You should get the vehicle serviced as soon as possible, but in most cases, the vehicle will continue to operate, though you run a risk of it dying or not starting.

* The Check Engine Light illuminates, stays on, and there are performance problems.
This means that a vital component of your emission control and engine management system has a serious problem. It usually involves a component or system needed for the vehicle to run at all. In most cases, drive the vehicle as little as possible. In many cases, the vehicle is not safe to drive at all -it could stop or stall out at any moment. It is best to pull over to a safe place and have the vehicle towed to an automotive diagnostician for a thorough inspection and repair.

* The Check Engine Light light comes on and blinks in a steady pattern while driving.
Don't confuse this steady pulsing of the Check Engine Light light (usually one or more flashes per second) with a flicker (see above). The Check Engine Light may stay on steadily or it may flash when the vehicle is accelerated. This is very serious. There is a severe failure of the emission control system that is causing the engine to misfire to the point that the catalytic converter is damaged each time the Check Engine Light flashes. It may mean that the catalytic converter is overheating to the point that it will glow red or, in extreme cases, start a fire on the underside of the vehicle. Immediately pull over to a safe place and have your vehicle towed to an automotive diagnostician for repair. Vehicles can be severely damaged and even destroyed by fire if this condition is ignored for too long.

With the engine off see if the shift between 1st to 2nd feel,s free if not it could be the cable check the clutch is disengageing all the way it should go into reverse without crunching,other then that it could be a synchro ring worn check that the gearbox has the right oil in it.

WONT SHIFT BACK TO 1ST GEAR HAVE TO MANUALLY SHIFT BACK TO 1ST GEAR WHEN STOPPING


The first thing to do is check the fluid level, make sure engine is warm and car is level, check fluid, if oil is fine then you may need a trany, i would also take a good look at the fluid and make its not brunt or dirty, sometimes ive found that a BG trany service helps in this cases, you may have a dirty or sticking part in the valve body, the does a good job cleaning trany, its worth a shot, hope this helps. note, a 1993 also has a passing gear cable make sure thats connected and adjusted correctly the is located at the throtle body linkage.

Car will go into reverse but want engage in drive


is it a manual or auto? one of 3 things. your forward gears are out,could be 1st gear. your belts inside could be worn or out of adjustment. most cars have a small little part that attaches to the gear shift in the trany, drop the pan, that part should be in the pan. now put the part back on. on the out side of the trany find the shifter. follow that inside the trany should be on the side,on the linkage should be a place to put one end of the part thu, find the other end place the other side of the part in the linkage replace pan gaskit put pan on fill with trany fld

Problem with clutch and 1st gear only when car is warm


The spring in the pressure plate is bad,and when it warms up is putting uneven pressure on the friction disc.The reason why it only occurs in 1st is that the input shaft is spinning from 2nd to 3rd and so on.In 1st from a stop it has stopped moving.

sounds like the clutch isnt engaging at all...is there a different sound in engine rpm when car is at idle and the clutch is pressed and released? Check clutch cable.

Sounds like you need gearbox oil (transmission oil in USA) .... check your levels and top it up.

ENGINE LACKS POWER (4AGE) 1600 CC, 4 CYL, TWIN CAM


I had the fuel pump recently replaced i just assumed the fuel filter was replaced also cause my fuel pump is in the gas tank. My air filter is clean and I have 4 fuel injectors, no carburetor. A friend of mine who has looked at my car for me says it sounds like there is some kind of air leak but can't figure out where it is coming from?
