SOURCE: 2001 Grand Prix SE tranny trouble.

You can't use those two words in the same sentence when talking about transmissions. Best is new (rarely done) next is a rebuild (most times if from a good reliable shop, good but not cheap) then there is the used unit from a scrapyard..cheaper than either, but if it doesn't work, you get to pay r&r as many times as it takes, even if the yard guarantees it. (only way I'd do that is if I owned another identical car that I had driven and knew for sure the unit was good.

SOURCE: what company makes the 1995 Pontic Grand Am 4 cyl

General Motor's make the pontiac line Grand Am started in 1973 to 1975 First Generation. The Grand Am was discontinued till 1978 to 1980 Second Generation. It was discontinued again till 1985 to 1991 as the Third Generation. 1992 to 1995 made the Forth Generation. and the 1996 to 2005 makes the Sixth Generation. Your question to the Quad 4 on the 1995 if it is a question was totally redesigned with balance shaft for a quieter operation with only 150 HP and 155 ft-lbf as to the 1992 to 1994 HO Quad 4 with 180 HP and 160 ft-lbf. Hope this was the answer to what your asking.

pull your oil dipstick and look for water in oil if it is, you will need to replace the lower intake gasket if this a 3.1 liter engine.

Engine identification numbers

Engine identification numbers ????????? These are OBD 2 DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes. The onboard computer see a problem with EVAP emission system , O2 sensor , DTC C1275 -The PCM diagnoses a condition preventing the engine control portion of the traction control function and sends a serial data message to the EBCM indicating that torque reduction is not allowed. The PCM will typically set a DTC and the EBCM will set this DTC. You think a CV axle - your best bet ,take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .

I have a 2001 pontiac grand am se v6 . The service engine soon light came on and i got a free diagnostic ran and it brought up these codes; P0443, P0449, and P0141.

PO443, Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Malfunction
PO449, Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction
PO141, Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2).
I don't understand why the free diagnostic didn't come with a service recommendation?
P.S. I hope that you know when one of your headlights are out!

2001 pontiac grand am se occasionally shuts down when driving. check engine light is on!

Take the car to your local Auto Zone and ask them to scan the vehicle for trouble codes, they will scan the vehicle at no charge to you. Write the codes down and respond back to this post and we can begin problem solving.
The codes will help to narrow the system down that is causing the problem.
You might want to make sure the battery cables are clean and tight. If one of the cables has an intermittant connection problem, it will cause the car to shut down.
Good luck, let me know.
Regards,
