Question about 1996 Dodge Dakota

My 1996 Dodge Dakota v6 wont start i have to keep turning the key as it clicks and after about 5 minutes it will finally start.Is this the ignition switch or the starter? I wiggle the key after a whil

Cranks and starts fine once it does turn over.

    I put a new switch in and that wasnt it .Put a new belt on that wasnt it.So now i am going to put a new starter on.

    Check the starter brushes, not the whole thing.

    Check the starter selinoid copper disc.turn them around so that both flat surfaces will contact each other.

Put a wrench on the crankshaft bolt. If you can turn the engine by hand, replace the starter.

2 things could be happning. your starter motor is bad. or you are not getting enough amperage to the motor. chech the condition of your positive (red) cable at battery and starter and look for any green fuzz type corrosion.

I have a 93 dodge dakota pick up. When I turn the key I get nothing, The radio and the lights work fine. I had starter checked and the battery changed, It will run if you push it to start but not with the key.

I think yours has an ignition module which can be checked at parts store. Could also be bad coil. If you must have wiring diagram, get shop manual.

Just a thought! There is a provision where when fuel pressure drops the ignition is shut off. This is to prevent pumping when the fuel line is compromised. Monitor fuel pressure to see if it drops during normal operation.

Truck wont start


1.) spray engine starting fluid into air intake ---remove air filter if necessary.
2.) if ignition only on this spray, then seek bad fuel supply problem.
3.) if no ignition, check for spark.
