Question about 2007 Kia Optima

1 Answer

Mileage per gallan isn't what it used to be

2007 Kia Optima 4 cyl. replaced air filter and had transmission fluid changed at 36000 miles. Car seems to run fine especially when engine is warm. MPG dropped from 39 to 32.

Understandable. Ever since I started driving freeway a lot more, I've noticed that my MPG has shot up.

There are a few factors that affects fuel mileage, your vehicle is still pretty New and all emission related components should still be functioning at the peak performance. here is a check list of other items that may will affect fuel economy, from this list you will be able to determine what may be affecting yours.

  1. LOW TIRE PRESSURE or bigger tire size.
  2. VEHICLE IN NEED OF MINOR TUNE-UP SPARKPLUGS+ AIR FILTER.
  3. CHANGE IN DRIVING HABBIT(driving faster on highway) OR MORE LOCAL STREET DRIVING or carring more loads.
  4. Brakes hanging up or not releasing completely while driving (not very usual but possible).
  5. IF you added a rear spoiler/wing/wind deflector etc.
Good Luck and thanks for using FIX YA.

Red light on maintenance required is on, what would that mean. Oil has been changed recently, approximately 45,000 miles on the car

the maintenance schedule is in the owners manual on the last 2 pages I believe, But here are some of the things to check the maintenance schedule on that car calls for oil changes every 3,750 miles if you primarily use the car around town or 7,500 if you do mostly highway driving without stop and go traffic. Most cars should go by the 3,750 schedule.

tire rotations should be every 7,500 miles. Brakes should be checked when the tires are rotated.

the major service on the 4 cylinder is every 30,000 miles. that includes the tune-up items of replacing spark plugs, adjusting the valves, replacing the air filter, transmission fluid, interior cabin filter and the inspections and adjustments.

the 6 cylinder does not need the valve adjustment or spark plug replacement until 105,000 miles. otherwise, the fluids and filter replacements are every 30k.

the timing belt on both the 4 cyl and the 6 cyl is 105,000. at that time the water pump and coolant are also replaced as well as the other accessory drive belts.

Brake fluid should be replaced every 3 years or 45,000 miles.

Need how to set timing belt on kia optima

I had 2006 kia optima 2.4 liter LX, I drove 150000 miles plus, it was over 100,000 miles I changed timing belt, and AC belt, alternator belt is still ok, but it was my fault, I did not change crank shaft balance belt, it next to timing belt, this very important, timing belt and crank shaft balance belt must change same time, you set all mark the same positions, you can see all clear marked
if you had OBD2 scanner is helpful to read all faulty codes if you do it your self repair
if you have any problems about KIA optima, please post on any websites, to share some ideas to other KIA optima owners, like me, I change oil every 2500 miles to make my optima runs smoother
automatic transmission fluid change every year if you put high mileage on your car, optima had hard time to find it own part some time, radiator hoses are still good condition and had hard time to find in any auto part stores in my home town, good luck and thanks for sharing.

no serviceable filter in transmission. Kia requires trans.fluid to be changed every 30,000 miles. A simple drain and fill will do.

2007 kia rondo seems to use alot of gas

I have the same issue of low gas mileage. My 2008 Kia Rondo with V6 (2.7Lt) gets 20-21 mpg in average. Even for highway mileage, it is around 21-22mpg. Very poor gas mileage. Disappointed. I hope it would improve in the future.

2000 Prizm

Hi....
Is there a few possibilities for a Low mileage per gallon on any car.
But I will mention the more Importants.

The Spark plugs.
Depend on the Mileage on your car, Normally For a Prizm.
The spark plug should be changed every 30,000 Miles.
With Factory Dippon Denso ( ND) or NGK. Both are factory replacement.

Check for any Vaccum leak on the Intake Manifold and The Big Rubber hose from the Throttle Body
To the Air filter.. Or any restriction on the Big rubber hose.

Is very Important to Have changed the Oil every 3,000 miles.
Incredible But Old oil made any car to have low mileage per gallon.

Check the condition of the Transmission Fluid .
Is nessesary to change the first time at 60,000, and after Every 20,000 or 30,000 miles.
To old or burn Transmission fluid made the car run on more RPM to get power.
Compare with new oil ,

Ok. is there a few more things but check this first and let me know.

I hope this help on your question.
Thank you for use fixya.

2005 Kia Optima auto trans problem

I had the same problem... just got my car services and took car to transmission spec. they told me that its the pump inside the tranny thats broken or something. while the pump is working >ie under acceleration it blows fluid out the seal (which seal im unsure) once the fluid level drops below the seal level it wont blow as much fluid out. if you check the levels you should notice that the fluid is well under level. Major job because you need to remove the transmission to get to the problem If that isnt the problem another issue could be a seal on the left or right driveshaft. This isnt as major as the other because you wont need to remove the transmission but time is required to remove the driveshafts to replace the seals. The first problem cost me about $600AU
