Question about 1998 Pontiac Grand Am
Just got off work and went to my car in the car garage, put key in ingiation to start car, and the key would not turn. I had 3 people try it and used different keys that go to the car. We also realize that the steering whell does not lock. I am not usre if it ever did, PLEASE HELP IF CAN, I NEED MY CAR TO GO TO WORK.
If you have a center console shifter make absolutely positve the gear select is all the way up into PARK, even the slightest thing in the way can cause the key to lock you from starting vehicle, if a coin or other object fell down into the slot of the shifter it could effect it. If you try to start in Nuetral place foot on the brake first, shift into Nuetral and try to start. The start/Nuetral safety switch could be bad as well, but hopefully it is something as simple as a penny in the way. wiggle shift lever all the way into park. I had a guest the other day who could not get her key out of the car, and she had a coke from wendys in the cup holder, the shift lever would not go all the way home by quarter of an inch, as soon as I moved the cup forward the shift lever fell into place on its own and the key came right out.
