My qs8006 will not run

It is brand new right out the box some assembly requiured charged turned on switch put batt. radio will not respond

I would check the plug going into the alternator. They have been known to fail at times. I would also check the fuse for the alternator if equipped.

The neutral safety switch at the shifter is bad causine open circuit loop for the starter to operate. Replace this switch will take care of the problem. the switch is about $40. but labor may cost more. Cheers.

check the big wire that goes to the fuse box under the hood. there is one that goes from the batery across the radiator shroud. then them. also check the ground from the engine block to the firewall its flat with no coating.

REPLACE BATTERY CABLES THE POSITIVE CABLE FEED WIRE TO ALTERNATOR BROKEN ON INSIDE IF ALL IS GOOD YOU HAVE WRONG AMP ALTERNATOR.

I've seen a handful of vehicles over the years where the jumper cables were accidentally hooked up backwards, even for a split second, and the damage done has ranged from none [other than some nasty sparks] to severe where the engine/transmission computer were damaged by the reversed polarity. Because you're unable to read any data via the OBDII connector I would suspect either a blown fuse or fuses or a damaged computer. I'd check all the fuses first then if things still don't work you may have to have a service facility do some further testing to see what is working and what isn't as far as computer inputs/outputs are concerned. Sorry that I don't have an easy fix for you but hope this helps a little bit!

check main powers , do you know were inside fuse boxes are ?right hand an left hand . You may have blown a main fuse or fusible link et..... If I had to guess you probably blew BATT 1 or BATT 2 fuse's in the right hand fuse box .

98 chevy malibu my alt isnt charging new alt batt test good cut out the fuselink on starter the alt wire runs thru firewall If i run a wire straight to the batt it is putting out 19v any suggestions


Did you check the fuse in the under hood fuse box ? GEN / BATT fuse 10amp . Is your check engine light on ? This is a computer controlled charging system , it should have four wires connected to the alternator . 1 - the heavier wire on the back ,this comes fro the starter - the one with fusible link , you could have checked for battery voltage with voltmeter ! The three other wires in the connector are the orange one ,this comes from the GEN / BATT fuse an should have battery voltage ! The last two come from the PCM - engine computer . are the inside of the battery terms dirty,corroided? do you know if motor alt is charging batt? how long did it run when you put new batt in? if it lasted about two days, its proubly not charging, also make sure nothing is being left on draining batt down, to check that, leave batt nuhooked pos side over night.

97 checvy astro 4.3 6cyl. I replaced battery, Starter and the batt wont hold a charge. Is it possible to check the wiring from the alt to the starter without having to remove the alternator?


Yes, If you have a volt meter, jump and start engine, with engine running you should have approx 13.5 to 14.2volts that would tell me that batt is getting charged when engine is running. you said new batt would not hold a charge, I would be thinking about a parasitic draw(small amount of power) that in time will drain batt. things to look for are glove box lights, under hood lights that dont turn off. one easy way too see if you have a draw is to disconnect one batt cable, now use a regular (12volt non-self powered) test light and touch one end to batt cable and the other to empty batt terminal, with no light switches on and doors closed, this test light should not light and if it does then you have a drain on batt that will kill it say overnight.

Jeep doesn't start. Turn key, hear slight click in fuse box but nothing else? Took battery out to be checked Pep Boys says its good, needs a "slight" charge. Went home reinstalled the clean...


clean all connections very good ( batt post connectors,gound wire from batt to frame/motor, also clean starter connections,and alternator connections) I know pep boys checked but you cannot properly check a battery unless it has a full charge!!!!! If it wont accept a full charge then batt is bad, If it charges to a full charge and fails a draw test the batt is bad. also when a draw test is done you can have the charging system checked also to make sure batt is recieving the proper charge input. all inexpensive checks, get it running and take it to a garage, 3 min test usually not even a charge most of the time. NOT A DEALER, and have them show you what they are doing. if you are a female have a male friend go with you or have it done. I dont care what anybody says!!!!!! When it comes to a inexperienced female, the DEALERSHIP,the REPAIR GARAGES will all try to get some kind of MONEY out of you before you leave their place of business.

The Batt does not have a full charge or it is the wrong cranking AMP's for the car... find out if it is the right Batt and also that it is put on a "slow charge" over night or at least 6 hr's

14.6 means your voltage regulator or diode is suspect Despite having new alternator .Ive cross refrenced your smptoms in the haynes workshop manual and alternator is your only end answer.The haynes test is to start vehicle with multi meter connected across the battery terminals,increase the engine speed until the reading remains steady should be approximately 12 to 13v and no more than 14v.switch on as many accessories as possible(headlights heater blower radio etc)check that the alternator maintains the regulated voltage at around 13 to 14v.If the regulated voltage is not as stated then alternator is to be repaired/replaced.Good luck with it and a happy new year.

My Answer:

Being an expert in this Electronics field this should be fairly easy.

It appears your charging system is functioning OK as you did the QUICKIE alternator/regulator test and that part appears to be fine.

Next - Never ASSUME you have a good, or NEW battery. I've seen brand new batts fail a few months after purchase for no known reason at all. Water level should be topped off esp during Hotter weather as water level will drop as the batt ages.

AND - when in doubt - Always do a hydrometer test on each cell, and make sure all cells read equally at approx 1.285 to 1.290 - indicating a fully charged batt.

When doing a LOAD TEST with an external 100 Amp Load Tester make sure you disconnect the POS terminal cable (or better yet both batt cables) on the batt before doing a good Load Test on a fully charged batt.

Batt voltage on a good fully charged batt should never drop much below 11.4 to 11.7 volts doing a 10 second load test using a Load Tester similar to say one bought at Harbor Freight Tools for like $15 when they are on sale.

If the top of the batt is wet (for whatever reason such as dew-point or leaky batt acid) this will cause the batt to self-discharge right across the top of the batt. Just like putting a small light-bulb across the batt posts and causing a drain. It happens more times than you care to know. When I worked at SEARS I seen it day in and day out......trust me I know!

Next - you'll want to check for a couple things at night, or else daylight will work as well - if you have good eyesight. You want to check and make sure your "backup lights" aren't ON when the Headlights Switch is turned OFF and the Ignition Switch is OFF as well. Sometimes a SHORTED Transmission Backup Light Switch will cause a battery drain with everything shut off. Sometimes!

Also - If you have any Interior Lights left on when the SUV doors are all closed that will surely drain the battery down.

A radio/stereo left ON will do the same as well.

A shorted tail-light (or any marker light) will also cause a battery to drain over time.

Jeeps that have a under the hood light Mercury Tilt Switch for the Engine compartment sometimes can have this switch mounting come loose and when you shut the hood the light will actually stay lit thus draining the batt down as well. Make sure you check it at NIGHT during darkness as it will show up better.

If all this proves NOT to be the cause then you will have to do an actual DVM inline amp meter test to see just how much current leakage (shorting) you have. A fuse block isolation test will next have to be done to isolate from which circuit leg the short (or current drain) is coming from.

Once that circuit is isolated then it's just a matter of finding the shorted device or shorted wire(s).

If you just added anything new electrical wise to the Jeep recently- then that is a good starting point - for if the problem wasn't there before that time, and now it is - then there is your culprit!

If you are using an external battery charging PV (Photo-voltaic) panel, and it's bad for any reason - then it will drain your battery down as well, esp if the blocking or back diode goes bad.

Also - If you have a dual battery system with a BATTERY ISOLATOR installed you might want to double check all your wiring there as well - as I've seen them go bad and cause many a battery problem!

It's gotta be something I just went over here - as I covered everything......
