On 2000 Galant, fuse #13 repetitively blowing. What could cause the problem?

After starting the car, fuse 13 blows later and the car will not restart. Replace the fuse, and the car restarts, but again blows fuse 13 shortly thereafter; over and over again.

SOURCE: horn blows constantly, doesn,t blow the fuse or

  • The horn relay might have welded contacts (stuck in the on position). Pulling the relay should stop the horn.
  • The wiring harness on the steering column might have a broken wire to the horn relay shorting to someplace that applies power to the relay. In this case, turning the steering wheel all the way to one side or the other may stop the horn, and it won't sound when you press the horn button.
  • The horn button in the steering wheel is stuck on or shorted.

Sounds like a minor short somewhere.... firstly check around near the Alternator for any possible wires in the wrong place..... but I doubt if you will see anything wrong.... This COULD be an Auto Elec job.... but check first just in case it is a loose wire or something

Obviously a blown fuse is caused by a short to ground. You may need a book to get the wiring diagrams to trace the circuit.
Does the car start then blow the fuse after you put a new fuse in ?

You will have to check the start switch. If its smoking you have a short in it which could cause a fire.Thats why it keeps blowing the fuse its a short in the switch.

Kia 2000 sportage auto keep blowing fuse when starting can you tell me what is wrong

well, blowing fuses is caused by a short, has the vehicle had anything done to it before the fuses started blowing ??? and what fuses are blowing, if it is the main fuses that are 200 amp, then it could be caused by faulty wiring, or bad earth.......trust me if it is the 200 A fuse that is blowing, you will be very happy that it is, because if the manufacturer did not put that fuse there, you would be facing a vehicle fire.....i would trace the fault, or have an auto-electrician diagnose for you

Check that the pollen filter (especially that one cos it gets really clogged up) and any other associated filters, even the engine air filter. I would go for the pollen filter first though.
