Can't find the Air Filter on a 2008 Volkswagen rabbit

Hi, I am trying to find the air filter on a 2008 rabbit. It looks like it may be somewhere under the plastic piece that covers the engine. I can't figure out how to get that off either.. There is a small box that is just inside the engine compartment that looks like it should have a filter but there's nothing in there, and the filter I bought for the car is way bigger than that box anyway..

the air filter is in the engine cover. the engine cover is also the air filter box. you have to pull the cover off. then flip it over and there are 4 screws holding the air filter. loosen those screws then take the air filter out, replace it and put the screws back on, then gently put the cover back ontop of the engine. make sure you fit the four holes with the the four studs exactly

Hi, my 1982 vw diesel rabbit has a surage about 40 mph. Is this a air leak or seals weak?

Hi, surging generally means a fuel problem, and probably too lean.
A weak pump is one possibility, so you can check pressure with a gauge, another possibility is a sensor is bad.
There are air mass, air temperature, engine temperature, throttle position, oxygen, etc., sensors.
They can all be checked with an ohmmeter, and while methods vary, bad ones usually are 0 or infinite ohms. Air mass and oxygen sensors can get coated and need cleaning.

I have a 2008 Passat. I purchased an air filter which is located under the engine top cover. How do i remove this cover without breaking it.

I looked up your car on Autzone.com's site and my online resource but no data on how to take the air filter out was there.

Maybe, you'll have to purchase the Chilton or Haynes repair manual or go to repairpath.com or alldata.com to get the information you require on your computer.

2008 Volvo V50 - Cabin Air Filter Location?

It's under the dashboard. First you must dismount the accelerator pedal (!), remove some dashboard plastic on driver side. The filter is somewhere behind the central console.
I think it should be changed every two years. Look into the manual.
The company where you take the car for oil & filter change every year must change also this filter with no additional charges. Of course they charge you for the filter, which is not very exponsive.

Looking for the air filter to replace it

look for a round plastic tubing leading from the motor. will be a large diameter. the end away from the motor should have a large black plastic box closed by either screws or clips.... remove those clips and you will find the filter.
