Hi, is your car a VW and you need a manual or is it a VW manual (not automatic). My best bet if you need the vehicle manual is to google it. All the best.

Will a 1982 quantum motor fit into a 1985 GTI

If the Quantum engine is the 1.7l (4 cylinder) engine, it should fit. The main difference will be that the engine in the Quantum is mounted "front-to-back" while the GTI will have the motor mounted "side-to-side". All of the accessories, the intake system, exhaust system and other items will have to be retained from the GTI motor.
Personally, I would think that this would be a lot more work and have a much greater chance for issues than a more simple swap with a standard VW engine.
