what exactly happened when it 'went dead'? Is it an automatic or a manual? Does the car try to start/crank over? Need more info could be anything from something simple to a blown engine!

hi from the uk you do not say if manual? or auto ? however assume auto so first thing to check is the transmission fluid! this is a dip stick under the hood that you check the levl same as you would engine oil level? top up with trans fluid if not showing on stick then check for any leaks underneath car as to why fluid loss? now if it is manual trans? and from your symptoms i would suspect the clutch has worn out hence the reason for drive failing over a short time driving ? if you feel it would be better ask your hubby/dad or male freind to check the above for you? then if you come back with update on findings would be able to advise further best wishes from n/west uk

Agreed, no such thing as an engine reset button. I wish it were that easy! : )

if overheats, and trows water or steam, there you can think on the water pump or the thermostat, but you only have a signal problem, try replacing the tempeture sensor.

Theres a transmission cooling sensor and somtimes the wire comes loose from other repairs being done around it. or its just out. its on the left side sitting on the tranny. THATS WHY your d4 light is blinking

Slow in reverse, not much power

you will have to get the transmission flushed with new gasket and filter...if that doesnt work you will have to get it overhauled.

possibly due to low trans fluid pressure. the cooler in the radiator may be plugged. to check, disconnect and bypass cooler with rubber line & clamps. drive 2-3 miles. shifting OK now? install auxillary cooler to bypass one in radiator. you can get one at auto-zone $30-$50. may just need fluid & filter change, but more likely it's the cooler. when they get plugged, either one, pressure drops alot.
