2007 Jeep Wrangler - When Jeep is left for a week, it doesn't start. Brand new battery installed in January for same problem, but still happening??? Dealership says it is normal after one week for it not to start. Dealership told me to take out the IOD fuse when i will be away for extended periods of time??? It was purchased brand new, and i find this hard to believe. Can anyone help?2007 Jeep Wrangler - When Jeep is left for a week, it doesn't start. There could be a couple of reasons for this. But that’s not to say it’s a big problem.
1st, make sure there is enough fuel in it.
Some vehicles with a large fuel tank, won’t pick up when there’s only a small amount. So stick another Jerry cans worth in if you can.
Secondly, put a battery pack / jump pack or cables on it to give it a power boost and keep cranking it. It can take a while for the fuel pump to get the fuel back to the engine and fill the fuel lines.
Also, keep “priming” the fuel pump. * put the keys in the ignition, turn to position 2 so the car is ready to start and all the lights are on the dash, wait 10 seconds, then remove the keys, and repeat this process 2 or 3 times before trying to start”
This will get the fuel pump to prime up and push fuel down the lines.
Do you mean it cranks but won't start?
Check for spark at a spark plug wire. If you have spark, it's probably not the ignition, but a fuel issue. Do you hear the pump come on briefly when key is turned to on? You may need to stand by the gas tank with the cap off, while someone turns the key on. The pump should hum or whirr for about 2 seconds to prime the fuel system. Then it will shut off until car is cranked over. If the pump and the ignition is working, check fuel pressure. If you had no spark, it could be the coil, or crank position sensor, or...well, you would have to diagnose the ignition system. If the problem is not cranking over, check all connections at starter and battery for a clean tight connection. Check for power at the starter solenoid when key is held in crank position. If power there, the solenoid must be bad. If no power the circuit from ignition switch to the starter solenoid has a problem ( like the starter relay or the neutral safety switch). Good luck.
Thanks for choosing Fixya and welcome. It may need primed. Worth a try. Turn the key on for 10 seconds and off, repeat about 6-8 times. You could have bad injectors(fuel). Make sure your fuel pump is working. Try hitting the gas tank to see if it will start. Your fuel pump may be going out. Check your fuel pressure. If the check engine light is on, try getting the codes for it. You could have an issue with the ignition system, such as plugs, coils, wires, distributor, coil packs, cam sensor, crank sensor, computer, ect. Many thing can cause a no start. That is why the codes are so crucial. Try hitting the tank though. Fuel pumps will go in and out right before they go out for good. Best wishes. Any questions, just ask me.
If your jeep's check engine light is sporadic and comes on only once in a while, your ecu is most likely in need of repair. The ecu has to send power to the relays for the fuel pump and ignition systems or the jeep will not start. It also has to pulse the injectors and will not if the check engine light does not show up on the dash, before trying to crank. Try leaving the ignition switch in the run position, for a while, to see if the check engine light does eventually come on. If it lights up, then it's definitely the ecu in need of repair.
Your Jeep ecu is in need of repair. Your jeep is having a common problem known as the "Delayed check engine light" starting problem. Next time you try starting the jeep and it the fuel pump won't prime, look at the dash.....the check engine light is not on and the fuel pump will not come on until the check engine light eventually come on, on the dash. Have it repaired and it will eliminate the delayed check engine light start problem.
When it sounds like it wants to start but won't, it is almost always a fuel problem. When you first turn on the ignition key (radio off, in a quiet setting) do you hear a faint 'hum' from the rear of the car? If so, your fuel pump is probably alright, so the next check it to remove the small, light green plastic cap (it might be black, about the size of a tire valve cap) on the top of the engine-it is part of the fuel rail and has a small pin in the center of it. With a rag in your hand, hold it over the valve, and with the key on, use a small screw driver and push the pin in-the rag will keep you from getting sprayed, if all is alright, but if you get little or nothing, you have a problem with your fuel pump, filter, fuel regulator or you may have a plugged 'sock' at the bottom of the tank.
it's highly unlikely, there are only two things that can make this happen, not getting fuel (fuel pump failure, fuel pump regulator) or not getting ignition (bad coils, ignition module failure, bad distributor, distributor cap, rotor)
If your check engine light does not illuminate when you turn the ignition on then your jeep ecu is in need of repair. The check engine light has to be on for the fuel pump to get power. Try leaving the ignition key in the on position for a few minutes to see if the check engine light does eventually come on and if the fuel pump starts to work then.
It sounds like your problem is in the ignition. Maybe you are using a valet key or your ignition switch has failed. Often when a security light comes on it is because your ignition is not getting the electronic signal needed from the key(coded) to start the car. When your ignition does not recognize the key it shuts off all fuel systems but starter still goes.
