Location of fusible links on 1990 gmc sierra 4x4

Hi, my freind has a 1990 gmc 4x4. her battery kept going dead so she replace the battery. it still goes dead after setting a few days, i think a diode is out in the alternator. the other problems are the dashlights, taillights, domelights, and now the headlights dont work. i heard something pop when i was charging the batter and turned on the headlights to see if they worked. the fuses appear good by sight. i think the fusible links could be blown because she said all the lights quit working when she put the battery in.

SOURCE: Taillight fuse locotion

The fuse-block is located on the left end of the instrument panel under a cover. (It should have a diagram on the inside as to which fuse controls which circuit). If it isn't a fuse,it may be a defective headlight switch.

SOURCE: 2006 GMC Sierra electrical problem

If your Sierra has a Duramax, it may be the intake air heater or the fuel heater cycling on and off in the cold weather. But if its pulling the voltage down to 12V after warmup, I would suspect a poor battery. As suggested, get a load test at autozone or ??

SOURCE: I lost the cover to

It should be in the owners manual. Also you can pull the fuses one by one until you find the blown fuse.

my name is michael. You said it will go into 4 low but not into 4 hi. Have you lifted the truck to see if it is operational? Does your 4x4 light come on? Does it grind into either 4 hi or low? And one thing, has anyone ever taken the axle out on the right hand side? Please feel free to email me at

4x4 1990 f150 will not start

Does the truck turn over but won’t start? If so there is a fusible link running from the starter solenoid behind the battery.
Also if you get nothing when you turn the key could be the solenoid. Its easy enough to jump the solenoid and check . Check all the fusible links coming off the power side of the solenoid and replace as needed.

Battery gets drained sporadically.

The large fusible link goes to the positve battery terminal on the back of the alternator, the alternator has a short,of course pull it and have it tested before replacing it.

1990 gmc sierra 4x4 starts fine 3 times then won't turn over, wait an hour or two then turns over and starts.lights and gauges activate fine when attempting to start and can hear the relays(drl and...

does the starter make a "clicking noise" when it wont turn over? check your battery cables at the battery and at the starter solenoid....if it not a connection , then it sounds like a bad starter relay/solenoid
