If you have diagnosed the problem as being the airfilter and the code persists, as work4it1 said it will need to be cleared by a code reader. But, the 2003 silverado is an OBD II wiring system. If you go to a local auto parts store, they may sell one for cheaper then a mechanic would charge to do it or even the store around where i live they let you borrow the unit and do it yourself for free.

Well you will need to take it to a mechanic or some one with a computer or code reader to check the codes and turn the light off.

Engine light came on

That often has to do with emissions problems. Has it been raining lately? The check engine light on my Saturn will come on when the humidity is high after heavy rains.

How do you know when your timing belt is going. I own a 2003 passet, and the engine light is one, but it says its an emission issue. Is there a clear cut warning sign that it's starting to go?

hi to be honest...no these have a mileage limit that they advise you to change them, but most people do it before this time there is no warning as to when they will go, if you are unsure, and if it has done 60,000 miles + then i would change it to be on the safe side..and this will be an emissions fault, it will more than likely be one of the o2 sensors on the exhaust..but the error code should tell you what it is exactly...hope this helps

CHeck engine AND VSA light came on in my car 2003 Highlander

Hello, and welcome to FixYa. Without knowing the actual 'code' (the reason for the light being on), it is hard to state with any accuracy.

However...we see quite a bit, here in my shop, Highlanders with the Check Engine light on, right after an oil change. Often, whoever changes the oil sometimes checks the air filter, and, when they open the filter box, they knock off a vacuum hose going to the air filter box. This could be your problem.

Go out to the vehicle, pop the hood, and check the black box that holds the air filter, on the passenger side front of the engine compartment; look to see if a black rubber hose is not connected. If it is off, reconnect it and drive the vehicle 10 miles, shut it off, and drive another 10 miles. This may extinguish the light.

I hope that this info helps you out. Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance.

Service engine soon light is on. I changed the air filter, but this did not satisfy the light, and it is still on.

Service engine soon lights don't actually refer to the fact the vehicle needs some sort of routine maintenence. It actually is the computers way of saying that something has malfunctioned enough to cause a problem with emissions. The only way to find the problem is to scan the computer with a code reader. So if you arent car saavy you are going to need to go to a repair shop.Find a shop that gives free estimates and be sure to have them expain the problem they found and how they will solve it before granting permission for work to be done.Hope this helps.

Sluggish performance and engine light - added new plugs and oil

You need to check for engine codes to see what is wrong. Bring it to a parts store for a free scan for codes. The check engine light indicates a problem, probably the emissions system, which is causing the poor performance. The parts store will plug a hand held scan tool into the cars diagnostic port (usually located under the dash) and 'read' any codes stored in the cars computer. They can them tell you what code #'s come up, what they mean, and how to correct the problem. If you have any questions after that, post them here w/ the code #;s for further help.

Whats included in a 120k maintance

This almost always if different depending on the shop you take you car to. The best way is to look in your owners manual, pick your diving conditions, normal or extended use, and see what Mistubishi recommends. Should be at least, oil change, rotate, brake inspection, air filter, spark plugs, plug wire set, timing belt. On a Mits with over 100k miles I always recommended Distbutor cap and rotor, Transmission flush(for auto), Induction flush.

2003 toyota highlander OBD code's po442/po446/po441

if the air filter was recently inspected or changed, look for the vacuum hose to be disconnected from the valve located on the air filter cover. another source may be the gas cap either loose or with the tether strap caught under it preventing a proper seal

Service engine soon light

hi,

had a 97 grand prix and could not get the light out for any period of time, It ended up being the exhaust gas sensor saying incomplete burn due to an intermittent miss, had to change plugs, plug wires and finally injector service but the light stayed out after that, that was a 3.8 V6, hopefully that helps
