Newer cars now are preset for an idle. But you still may have a problem with your intake gasket. It may be blown alowing to much air to enter the engine causing the idle to go high. The best way to check to see if the intake is gone is by useing some starter fluid and spray a little around the intake and lissen to your enine. If it idles higher then you do in fact have a bad gasket if not then you are ok . You may need to tak it to a machanic and have it put on the computor to idle it back down or fix what is wrong with it.

Transmission in 94 silverado, wont shift into high gear

This IS an Automatic,right?
Probably either a bad valve body sticking or bad servo(electrical in T-R-ansmission).
I ALWAYS get a coupla' cans(on bigger automatic tra-n-s) of SEA-FOAM T-R-A-nsmission treatment from Wal-Mart or Auto-Zone and try it(follow the can's directions). If the problem goes away,drain and refill the T-R-A-ns with a new filter,too. don-ohio

The engine light came on this morning no running problems it is a constant light (not flasing)

It could be as simple as not putting your gas cap on properly. You can go to Advance Auto and they will scan the car's computer for free to find the code that is causing the light to come on. Once the code is cleared it will go back off.
