Question about 1999 Cadillac DeVille

1999 cadillac deville blower dont operate. What should the voltage be at the red wire and the gray wire or the black wire ? Iam assuming the red wire should be 12 volts, the gray wire should be variable voltage and the black wire the ground. Can anyone answer this or maybe there is a better way to check the blower motor,Tanks Ron

I have zero voltage on the gray wire but still not sure the control module is faulty therefore i appreciate the suggestion of temporary wire the motor to see if will operate before i go through all the effort of replacing this motor. Thanks again Ron

Red black and gray are just half the connections. Red is positive 12 volts coming from fuse of circuit breaker. The black wire is either the ground or the main hot wire going to the blower motor (3 pin connection only), and the gray wire (if is is small in size) is a variable voltage coming from the body control module requesting speed for the blower motor. The blower control module varies voltage on the main wire going to the blower motor, supposedly in accordance with the requested voltage from the body control module. Usually if all fuses are okay and present on the apprpriate wire of the blower control module, the a blower motor that will not run or stays running after the key is turned off is the fault of the blower control module. If the blower control module has failed the the cause must be determined (over amping blower motor) or else new blower control module may fail when powered up.Usually blower control modules have more than three wires. Usual connections are: B+ (battery voltage) GND (chassis or engine ground), two large wires going directly to blower motor (can be any color, but are usually 10 guage in size), and an optional wire that reports voltage level back to the body control module.

Sounds to me your on the right track. black ground, red hot, gray variable. your doing what i would do. if you can get to ware it plugs into motor unplug it and run 12 volts stright to it from your battery and see if it runs. as far as voltage i can't believe it would be more than 12 v to it. some thing you might want to chk. as long as your under the dash if its there is the resister, they chg.heater motor speeds. and if there bad motor may not run at all.

Where is the blower motor relay located. Is it in the blower motor control module?

Are there any hvac trouble codes ? Did you check voltage and ground for front blower motor, with controls turned on? I believe the purple wire is voltage and black wire is ground. If good voltage and ground with no blower action, suspect the blower motor.
With auto hvac didn't see relay, saw blower motor control processor, at control processor, did you check voltage and ground?
As far as replacing the blower motor control processor, that appears to be a very involved procedure. I can't lead you step by step to remove and replace.

1999 cadillac deville blower motor doesnt run. Have juice between red and black wire with test light. Worked before ten day vacation. Not working now

While a test light may be good for some folks &
for some purposes, you should always just use
a VOM,DVOM or Multi-Meter, whatever you like
to call it

A test light tells you nothing
It may, to you, indicate some sense that you
may have battery voltage at some point, but
how much?

At some point, you will use it in a way as to load
a computer circuit & smoke something

I have no wiring diagram to look at what your doing

Black is usually a ground side wire on vehicles,so
your doing no more than checking battery voltage,
assuming you had to turn on the key & blower switch

Back to square one
You need to see & learn the circuits on paper, thus
a wiring diagram BEFORE you can pick test points

The blower you can power, as you call it, directly to the battery
& any ground, even the body, just to test the motor

My guess, not knowing anything at all about your car,is that
you most likely have a module issue or something in the control
circuit, that provides battery or lesser voltage to the motor
under certain conditions

If you don't understand how the system works, your done
Need those wiring diagrams, good ones, not a useless Haynes
Manual, the factory ones that match your car for your model year

Helm.Com for manuals or a repair shop & print what you need
off their data base.

Where is the airconditioning high low switch located in a 1998 cadillac deville?

the blower fan is controlled by a module that communicates through data control info from the control panel to the fan control module. in your case the module is attached to the fan motor as one unit. if you unplug the fan you will find three wires in the connector. two thick black and red and one thinner wire, the thin wire is data. you will need to replace the whole fan unit to fix speeds.

1996 cadillac sedan deville blinker stoped blinking

I assume all lamps are tested to be ok.
1) Check fuse A11 in trunk (10A) is ok,
2) Check turn flash enable relay 'F' in trunk is operated when vehicle Ign on,
3) Check +12V is present on Lt Blu wire on turn flasher module (LHS steering column) when Ign on,
4) if no fault found during above checks, operation of the turn switch should be checked

Yes i have juice to the blower motor, but it dont blow all fuses are good, freon is good

Cadillac 1999 DeVille
If the front blower motor is not running with battery level power to it, you may have bad blower resistors which controls the speed of the motor.. Unfortunately the resistors are built-in the motor. You may have to replace the motor. If you remove the motor, you can recheck it by direct wiring power to it. OR you may have loose wires.
Also check the Heater and A/C Programmer module.

Here's some info I found from another posting.

1998 Cadillac DeVille

ok the easiest way to check is to take a voltage probe and check each wire this way it will tell you which wire is recieving current. the positive side should be marked either red, yellow or green with black stripe and sometimes orange. on the ground side it should be marked black, white, turn signals should be green for right side and yellow with black stripe for left. running and parking lights should be brown. back up lights are marked blue.
