Water in the area near the gas cap

I went to fill up the tank and noticed water in the area below the gas cap . Dried it out and next fill-up there was more water. It had been raining. Is perhaps water leaking in through the door to the gas cap?

You have a drain plugged in the filler basin. Also, for freezing weather, keep a bottle of de-icer liquid handy in case your gas cap gets stuck.Been there, suffered that! Owned several Marquis cars. Great cars! don-ohio (^)

don-ohio Thanks for the info. I'll try and find it and then unplug it (when the weather gets warmer) Good tip on the gasline antifreeze. Agree about the car, that's about the only problem I've had.

I don't think this is a problem, most fuel doors are not watertight the water is from a car wash or rain

Haven't washed the car in months but it has rained, I was just hoping there was a way to keep it out as I hadn't noticed that area being wet before. Thanks.

make sure your fas cap is screwed on tight. Could be gas or backing into the hose that recirculates fumes into the tank from the filler tube try shaking the car up and down by pushing up and down on the area near the gqs fill.

I have a 99 bonneville. About a week ago i was putting gas in when i knew it was almost empty, and the pump kept shutting off. I did this for a few days, putting in just enough to not run out. Then it went...

Sounds like the vent for the tank may be defective. The vent is on top of the gas tank between the tank and the floor of the trunk.
Or there is a blockage in the fill pipe for the tank below the connector hose.
You may have to have someone remove the tank and inspect it.

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 S 4 cylinder - went to get gas (just a bit, did not fill up) on Christmas and soon afterward the 'service engine soon' light came on. Called the Nissan dealer

When last did you service the vehicle ?
did they use the proper fuel ?

Chances are the service time is near where you will need to do a basic service, Plug , plug wires, filters etc. And reset the counter.
the fuel ting is just a coincidence.

should have flap door where you put gas nozzle into filler tube to fill up gas tank.if flap door not missing not too much got in gas tank.add more gas and gas treatment to remove water if you have stalling problems drain fuel tank.change fuel filter.

The car is sputtering and backfiring. After awhile

buy a couple bottles of gasline antifreeze (it absorbs water). add one bottle to your gas tank now and another bottle next time you fill up. you should notice results almost immediately.

Gas leaking from the cap area of the gas tank

Sounds as if the seal on that gas cap is old and worn out. Replace the gas cap.

Moisture in truck, with check gas cap message on dash

The two are of course not related. Check the trunk seal for missing portion, tears, splits, etc. this has to be where the rain is coming in. You can check for leaks with a hose and climb in the trunk with a flashlight, having a trusty helper direct water to one area at a time to check for the leak. The gas cap light is probably on due to a defective evap. vent valve, which is located behind the left rear tire near fill tube for gas tank.

Check Engine Light Comes on Intermittently

The P0141 code points to the O2 sensor heater circuit. It could be that there is a short in the wiring to the O2 sensor or it could be that the O2 sensor heating element itself is bad. The code is for O2 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2. Bank 1 means its the O2 sensor connected to the exhaust pipe that runs to cylinder #1. Sensor 2 means that it is likely the O2 sensor after the catalytic converter on the same exhaust pipe.
