Question about Toyota Pickup

Wiring Toyota 1988 pickup 4x4 EFI. A squirrel got in my engine compartment and ate through the entire bundle of wires containing 20+ wires. I think it hauled them off to a nest. My mechanic tried to spice new wires to reconstruct it but I think they got some crossed. The truck starts and idles and revs okay when cold and the auto choke is on, but once the choke goes off the fuel injection seems to be screwed up. The engine loses power and sputters until it stalls. Giving it gas causes back fires and it still loses power and stalls. Do they sell entire new bundles of wires for this truck? Is it too old for this? If they do is this a seriously complicated fix that will cost me big bucks for a mechanic to do?

SOURCE: Engine stalls when stepping on gas pedal and will not idle on its own.

Have you checked the ignition timing? Maybe you need to turn the distributor to the left or right if you don't have the timing light gun

hi there
sounds like you need a tune up or you need your injectors cleaned
so i will help you clean them with out getting your hands dirty but you need to follow me every step of the way.
first i will give you my tips

  1. get a high quality fuel injector cleaner that you put into your fuel tank
  2. make Shaw you have just under a full tank of fuel
  3. while i never say that one should drive a car like it is a toy you are going to have to do some harsh exhilarating during this
  4. 1000rpm is 1 revs on your dash bored so if i say do 2500rpm it means do 2.5 on your dash (that's only if you dot know what rpm means)
  5. never turn the car off while we do this
  6. please do not speed you put your life and others at risk
  7. please do not drink and drive
OK now for the step by step instructions
  1. have what you need ready to go including the injector cleaner
  2. start your car and let it warm up keep the revs just over 1000 rpm
  3. as the car is running add the fuel injector cleaner
  4. when you have done this i want you to increase the revs to about 2000rpm
  5. keep it like this for about 30 seconds
  6. after the revs are back down to 1000 rpm i want you to get ready to take it for a drive
  7. OK so take it for a light drive around your street keep it very close to home as if your car stops you don't want to have to walk a long way
  8. once you have done this for a while and you feal confident i want you to be a bit quicker in exelarating giving a bit more power remember dont speed
  9. now once you have done this i want you to take her home and let it idle for a bit
    cause you need to get ready to go for a long drive
  10. now that you have got to the bathroom and are ready to go i want you to find a nice open road where you can do 60mph
  11. now that you are here i want you to act like ther is a road train in front of you doing 50mph
  12. now i want you to overtake this road train applying full power by pressing fully dont on the gas
  13. once over tiaken slow back down
  14. i want you to do steps 11 to 13 twice at least
  15. now go back home and let me know how it went
now something to remember for alwase
  1. as stated i dont think you should race or rev the motor all the time to high once a month give it a good run this will loosen and clean all the rubbish from the motor and everythink will run freeley like it should
  2. dont drink and drive
  3. dont speed
  4. saty safe on the roads you life is to valued
  5. and let me know all progress as i want to know if it helped as i pout in a lot of time and effort to helping people on this site

check for a vacumn leak, my buddy has a 96 dually that did that,found out it was his temp sensor to the computor,was showing a negative # when i tested it,he replaced it and it fixed everything! He couldn't believe it LOL

Some things you can check. First, with the engine off, look down into the carburetor and quickly move the throttle. You should see a squirt of fuel. If not, the accelerator pump is bad. If that is OK, check the spark itself. It should bridge a half inch gap with no problem and should be healthy (have good "snap" and bluish color). If OK, check the two wires that run from the ignition module inside the distributor, down under the breaker plate.Often those wires can partially break or short to the housing...when the advance moves the plate it will cause a problem.
Only other thing I can think of is timing. That engine likes from 8 to 12 degrees advance (depends on fuel quality) if it's set wrong it can make it fall on it's face when you floor it. (bad chain can do that too).

1994 toyota pickup, 4x4, 3.0 efi, I need to know the color of the TWO wires that go to the IAT sensor? These wires are intagraded in the connector to the MAF sensor ?


The IAT is inside the Air Flow Meter in the air intake and is not serviced seperatly.
Using an ohmmeter measure between terminals THA and E2. Resistance should read:
at -20°C (-4°F): 10 - 20 k ohms
at 0°C (32°F): 4 - 7 k ohms
at 20°C (68°F): 2 - 3 k ohms
at 40°C (104°F): 0.9 - 1.3 k ohms
at 60°C (104°F): 0.4 - 0.7 k ohms

If reading is out of specification. it will be necessary to replace the Volume Air Flow Meter assembly. Also, I suggest check this wiring diagrams...

Efi 15 amp fuse blows after short run time 22re engine 91


You have a bad fuel sending unit bracket, on top of your fuel tank. This is a VERY common issue. Frop the tank down, you will see the problem. Replace the bracket, and you will be good to go.

I have an ' 86, same stuff.
Sound like a sensor thing alright. I would check the Throttle Position Sensor and the Mass Air Flow Sensor.
