Question about 1990 Nissan Minivan

1 Answer

I have a 1992 Nissan Serena. Diesel Automatic. Sometimes when I turn the ignition then engine screetches instead of turning over. Sounds like a clutch problem in a manual. It always starts eventually but i assume i should get this fixed. what do you think it is?

No...what you have there is a bad starter...the starter bendix is not kicking the wheel out to contact the flywheel and crank the motor...you simply need a new starter...do it sooner than later...eventually it wont start at all

Thanks a lot. I took the Van to a mechanic. He changed the starte motor but the problem persisted. Do you think I should just head to a new mechanics?

To clarify I did this before your response was posted as I thought that was where the problem was...

SOURCE: nissan serena does not start

most likeliy is the ignation module located at the side of the distributor.
chekc the spark from the high voltage plug first, if no spark then you need to replace the IM.

SOURCE: differance between nissan largo and nissan serena engine

The Engines aren't the same for these two cars.

NISSAN SERENA RUNS EITHER: THE "SR" FAMILY ENGINE or THE "QR" FAMILY ENGINE. Find out which is yours.

NISSAN LARGO RUNS THE "KA" FAMILY ENGINE. IT IS THE SAME ENGINE FOUND INSIDE THE FAMOUS '240SX', I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.

SOURCE: my nissan 350z sometimes stalls after starting

after i replaced the battery in my 2003 350z, it would stall immediatly after i cranked it on unless i gave it a little gas. I fixed this by cleaning the MAF and throtle body valve. Total supply costs were $15 and took about 20 minutes. My Z is not only fixed but runs smoother and cleaner.

Where can I get a nissan serena automatic transmission gera box? Mine is malfunctioning.

It sounds like you need to check the fluid in your transmission. If the fluid is at the correct lever you may need to change your transmission fluid and filter all together.

When the fluid is low, the transmission will not operate correctly. When the car is cold, the fluid is more viscous, thus creating a higher oil pressure in the transmission, but when it heats up, it thins out and will not create the correct amount of pressure to engage clutches and what not.

Dont forget to check the fluid with the engine ON. If it is off the reading will not be correct.

Where does the coolant go in my nissan serena.

The container you are talking about is called the overflow reservoir and yes, that is where you add the coolant. Make sure that your car has been off for a couple hours and is nice and cool before you try to add any, when it's hot it can build pressure and spray coolant or steam out when you unscrew the cap.
