Question about 1991 Buick Park Avenue

1 Answer

Have small short that keeps dischargeing battery

1997 buick park ave.
I have checked all the circuits by removing each fuse with a test light connected between the ground post and ground (ground disconnect from ground post). The light stayed on for each fuse removeal. The battery is about 1 year old and seems to take a charge OK.

We have the same problem with our 1991 Park Ave.

We have tested the same things you have. We are searching for

    an answer too.

We put in a NEW battery 3 times. New Alternator. Checked all the fuses

and circuits. Yet something is staying hot to run this battery down. It will

continue to crank for about 24 hours then die on us. We have to keep a

charger on it. But this is so disturbing to not find out what is wrong.

Small drain on battery when off, enough to drain

most of todays cars have small draws to maintain computer memory for the ECU and the radio. 50 mA or less normally.

If you have a higher draw than this you probably have a short somewhere. You can put an ammeter inline with your cars battery and pull fuses one at a time to see if a single circuit is at fault.

If the fuse pull doesnt work you will need to check for the fault backwards from the fuse panel. A continuity test with the battery off to see if the hot side is grounded ahead of the fuse panel should do it.

1997 park ave battery dies over night

I just posted my experience in another place on this site but on my 1992 PA the accessories relay stuck closed. This relay is the one that allows you to listen to the radio etc and keep things on until you open the door then all shuts off. When it is stuck closed accessories keep running until your battery drains dead. The relay was replaced and all worked great.
