Question about 2001 Mitsubishi Montero
Was driving and felt like it was going to run out of gas i was very low on gas and was able to coast to a gas station put gas in and now it wont start i can smell like a lot of gas like its flooded but let it sit of half hour and it still wont start it kinda wants to but will only run for like half a second
Sounds like possibly the timing belt has slipped or broken...or possibly a bad and plugged up catalytic convertor

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I TOOK THE AIR FILTER HOSE OFF THE CARBARATOR AND ADDED CARBARATOR CLEANER. PUT IT BACK ON, AND WORKED. TRY THAT.

you don't hit the alternator, you hit the starter to help is shake free because it is already going bad. take battery and alternator to parts store and have both tested. check the wires at the starter and make sure they are on SECURELY. very important SOLID CONTACT is occurring. do your lights turn on? check starter relay if the eclipse is equipped with one.

Just check your air flow meter connections do a "wiggle" test on it (Means move the wires to it while its running) put a bit of revs on while you do it or you will not notice the differance when you find the unrelyable connection! you see the more air rushes through the air meter the more fuel it tells the ECU to supply to the engine! so every it comes out off circit the ECU thinks the engine is idleingso it just supplys that amout of fuel thats why it dies under load!
an injection system will idle with the air meter disconnected..it just wont rev up because the ECU is unaware to supply more fuel understand?
Good Man Good Luck, HOPE THAT HELPS YOU!
