Changed shoes and hardware and can't get the drums on without forcing them on.

Your emergency brakes are engaged. Most likely the cables are rusted and won't release. Cut them near the rear brakes, adjust the shoes to fit the drum. replace them when you can.

sounds like you have it apart and not so sure about reassembly. If these are drum brakes try looking at the drum brake change videos on Youtube, ericthecarguy (ETCG) is a good one. Drum brakes are all basically similar with the main difference usually around self adjusters.

If the brakes work but you have to push very hard, try checking the vacuum supply to the brake booster with the engine running.

Brakes seized on ford ranger

A drum brake shoe lining may have become separated from the metal pad that holds it in place and will cause the wheel to lock. The only repair necessary is to replace the brake linings with new ones. The loose piece of brake lining, if this is the cause, will not likely cause any difficulty removing the drum.

Brake issues.

OK! Front brakes not releases all the way; bad calipers or rotten insides on your flex lines (acting as a check valve holding some pressure). Rear- replace hardware and wheel cylinder,( make sure the smaller shoe is on the front halve of backing plate or it will catch and lockup.)
