SOURCE: torque converter for ford f-150

Torque converters are cheap, around $100 because they can easily be rebuilt. But they almost never go bad, because they only have one bearing, and it is always bathed in oil.
So why do you think you even need one?
It bolts to the drive plate, which is like a light flywheel replacement, so that the starter has a ring gear to engage. So it it not part of the transmission at all, and is between the transmission and engine. If it is leaking, it is not hard to replace the seals and bushings once you take the transmission out.

SOURCE: does a torque converter for a 1989 ford bronco

The torque converter bolts to the flex plate at the rear of the engine. It supplies the link between the engine to the transmission.

It's known as a "Flex Plate" and not a "Fly Wheel". The flywheel is use on a standard transmission.

It is under recall for problems with the torque converter in the transmission. Take it to your local Ford dealer and they will replace the torque converter and transmission fluid at no cost to you.

2006 freestar will not go into any gear. all gears give the apperance of neutral except park.

This is a recall just like the 2005 Freestars. Your Freestar more and likely has a defective torque converter and worn out splines in your transmission. This is a life threatening recall and Ford inc has been looking at it as a casual recall. Get this to your Ford dealer today and have them fix it at no charge to you. Problem solved.
