Yes you can replace it yourself. it could be a bit of a pain depending on where its located. i would use some PB blaster on the old one to get it out.

If wiggling the wires cured the code, then one of the wires is broken inside the insulation. Pull on each wire one at a time. look for the colored insulation to stretch, this will be the broken wire. For the other car that wont rev up, this is a common when the catalytic concverter is plugged up. This will also cause MAF codes, and in turn, TRAC OFF light.

SOURCE: Service engine light, code po 420

A good brand name direct fit converter should keep the light off as long as the cause of the first converter failure is corrected. I would not use a universal fit one. Walker is a good brand, I have used them and never had a problem. Here is some more information, hope this helps.

When diagnosing a PCM code or codes: P0420, P0430, be sure to determine the cause of the converter failure. These converters are not likely to fail without an external cause. Typical causes are: fuel pressure regulator leak, engine misfire, dirty fuel injectors, coolant consumption, etc. Also, be aware that some converters on the market will cause this code or codes due to a lack of oxygen storage capacity. A component that must be in these converters, Cerium, is required to store, then slowly release oxygen. NOTE: P0420 is a bank 1 converter code, P0430 is a bank 2 converter code. If the vehicle has only one converter, then P0430 does not apply.

I would try to clean out the egr valve , check for leaks at the evap canister, check the evap canister soleniod , and lastly change out the cat convertor, The cat convertor is most likely under the federal emmission warranty of 8 yrs,.80000 miles. You can take the vehicle in to have checked by local dealer or call gm customer service to check the warranty on the cat. convertor by giving them your vehicle number.

My 2006 vibe reads poor catalyst what is this

The computer reads the front and rear O2 sensor and decides if the catalytic converter is working.
Either the cat is faulty, or one of the sensors is faulty, or something upstream in the engine is wrong.

The check engine light and the vcs light came on in the car and we are wondering if it is safe to drive until we can get it checked.

It is not desirable to have the car/engine running if the engine light has come up, So it is ideal that you seek help immediately at the nearest service center.
Please check the engine oil levels, if low top it up before the car is moved.

Speedometer on 92 regal is jumping between numbers that don't make any sense! Could this be a ground?

This is likely a faulty speedometer unit. They use very small drive gears and if the gears become worn or chipped (just through normal service) it will become very erratic at your most common speeds and will probably calm down as you accelerate. Let me know what else I can do for you.

Just bought a 2006 chevy trailblazer. the engine light kees coming on. checked and replaced 2nd cylander coil. drove 150 miles engine light came ack on

I suppose the engine code said that cylinder was not firing or faulty? I would immediately get a compression check done on the engine. It is relatively painless. My burnt valves (compression 10psi vs 150psi) could not be diagnosed any other way. Does this help?

    Service engine light

From the GM Factory service Manual:
P0341 - Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Performance
The other thing about this code, is that it can be caused by a faulty ignition module, or the cam sensor magnet on the timing chain gear, behind the engine front cover that the sensor mounts to. These possibilities would
require a bit more involved diagnosis than just replacing the sensor related
    to the code.
I have done a tech. bulletin search for this code, and come up with nothing.

Again, need to get harness checked, and if wiring OK, further diagnosis of
    the ignition system.
