A combustion engine needs three things to start and run. It needs spark fuel and air, my guess if is either a bad coil, fuel pump or worst case timing chain.

SOURCE: cutlass supreme wont start

It could possibly be the starter, but before you get that far make sure the Battery cables are connected very tight. If loose the car won't start or do anything. Also make sure the battery cable is grounded.

SOURCE: Battery light stays on until I press the gas

Known issue to occur occasionally on VW/Audi. What is occurring is that the alternator is not spinning out fast enough to start charging, so the light is on. Once you rev the engine, the alternator starts to charge and remains charging till its shut off and restarted. It can be related to too low of an idle (not adjustable, unless you have a dirty throttle plate or air leak), the alternator itself (aftermarket or a bad rebuild) or an incorrect alternator pulley installed (too large).

SOURCE: alternator not charging the battery

Take the car to an autoparts store and have the alternator tested. While the output is being checked, move the wires around and see if it affects the output. I had a wire shorting out in the plug once that was intermittently causing the alternator to not charge. I ended up soldering the wire into the plug and it stopped the problem. If the alternator is not charging the battery, it is most likely either a short in the wiring somewhere or a faulty voltage regulator. Hope this helped and best wishes.

My 2004 Hyundai Sonata died while I was driving. Had to push it down the street all the way home. I tried to start it, but all I heard was a clicking noise. I have no clue what is going on! I put in a new...

Hi Laura, unfortunately a car stalling can be attributed to many things - electrical, computer modules, fuel, injectors/jets, etc. The fact that your car only 'clicked' when you went to restart suggests to me that either the car is not charging the battery, or the battery is not taking/holding the charge. A car will run for a very short while if the alternator is gone (using the battery), and similar if the battery is gone. As you've already changed your alternator, I would have the battery tested (takes a while) - replace if bad. If both the alternator and battery check out, then I would suspect you have an electrical short that's draining your battery. A good mechanic will be able to isolate the short. One way to start is to turn absolutely everything off in your car, pull the positive pole off your battery, then use a circuit tester to see if if a circuit is completed. If so, then you have a draw -- you can then start pulling fuses one at a time until the circuit is cut -- that's where you can begin looking at worn wires, etc. Good luck.

First my ac fan was not blowing as hard as normal still cooling just not blowing, then two days later my battery warning light came on,10 minutes later while running the electrical system just shut down....

Sounds like the alternator has gone bad. Jump start the car and check the voltage at the battery. You should see around 14 volts if the alternator is working. If you see around 12 the alternator is not charging.

Labor rates and parts pricing various greatly depending on where you are. Your best bet to find the most accurate pricing for your area would be to call some local shops to get some phone quotes.

You can expect anywhere from $300 to $600 to have the alternator replaced at a shop. If you do it yourself you can expect to pay $100 to $275 for the alternator at a parts store.

I bought a 2001 Santa Fe a month ago. Since then we have replaced the alternator twice. Could there be something else causing the alternator to go bad? The battery is brand new as well.

alternators are electric motors in reverse basically, only a couple of things to go wrong, bearings and internal wiring(brushes)as you dont say what the problem was,and when i worked for hyundai they rarely went,so i am loathe to guess......did you buy new parts or from a dismantler?????? i dont know.....

no i dont think your alternator is going out but you can test it easily there at home simply by taking the pos battery cable loose while the vehicle is running...if it continues to run it means he alt is good if it dies then you wil need a new alternator.its a sure fire way to know if its good or bad.

Fuses for 2002 mustang gt

There is no fuse for the alternator. If the alternator is working properly, it should charge the battery. Have you had the alternator tested? That is where I would start. Remember, just because it is new, doesn't mean it can't be broken.
