Turn the key on (engine off), then press and hold the RESET button until the flashing TPMS warning light goes off. Or, if it is not flashing, hold the RESET button until the light flashes three times. Turn the key off. But the relearn procedure is not complete until the vehicle is driven at 19 mph or faster for at least an hour.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is a common problem with Malibu's. It is due to cheap metal in the fuel gage that corrodes. Chevrolet knows about this but they refuse to issue a fix. The check engine light staying on and the faulty fuel gage are related. This is a defect and they need to recall this part! Raise hell with the dealership!

SOURCE: gas gauge
The float that moves the gas hand is possibly stuck in the tank. If there's isn't an access hole in the rear of the vehicle you'll have to drop the tank. Unless it becomes free on it's own. Hope this is helpful. Please rate. Thanks

sounds like a faulty float on the fuel pump not sending the correct signal to the guage. if helpful please rate

Bad fuel level sensor. Unfortunately it is located inside the gas tank. Fairly common problem on GM's. Due to sulphur in fuel. Corrodes the sensor tabs. Expensive to have repalced and NOT a do-it-yourself project, unless you have dropped a tank before.
