Question about 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
I have a v-6 engine that is making a loud tapping sound when the engine is at normal operating temp. The noise is not heard when the engine is cold only when it is hot. When stopping to park the noise is heard in Drive,Reverse, and Park it is quite loud. The truck runs fine except for this noise.Help! This is a reman engine I just put in a few months ago.
Sounds like car has been overheated and has a collapsed piston skirt. This will cause piston slap until piston heat up and expand.-------------------------------------------------------------------------

SOURCE: 2004 Aveo Unknown will not start
Daughters 2004 Aveo stopped dead on freeway. Plastic thermostat on engine and melted off. Chevy said it blew the engine, searched on line and found 17 pages of same complaint. Chevy repaired car for free. Still not worth the worry. But if this is your problem, fight it don't pay for repairs!

SOURCE: Lifter noise
This is a very common issue with General Motors. I have never bothered to try and fix it because it is not causing any harm. It is because General Motors still uses a push rod motor and the cold oil causes it to knock a little until the oil gets warmed up.

It sounds to me as if the cable isnt adjusted properly. I would check with the shop that put the tranny in and see if they could check the adjustment on the cable, more than likely when they put in the new trans they didnt bother to adjust the cable for the replacement transmission
