The fuel filter should be located on the frame rail a little in front of the rear axel. unless deisel then its located under the hood on the driver side of the engine

Well you can thank dodge for this one. The filter is locted on the bottom of the fuel pump that is loacted inside the fuel tank. Crwal under the truck and have some one turn one the key and listen for the pump to run it should make a wining noise if you cant hear anything have them try and start it while you bang on the bottom of the fuel tank some times they will start then if it does dont shut it back off or it might not start again

There is no magic "fix" button. You will have to perform standard diagnostic procedures to determine the fault.
Begin with checking fuel system pressure and spark.
The truck is nearly 10 years old. Has it ever had a major tune-up? Has the fuel filter ever been replaced? No? Well, there's a good place to begin!

Where is the inline fuel filter for a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 (318 hp)?

I don't believe there is one. The filter is on the top of the fuel tank and is part of the pump assembly. the tank will have to be dropped down to remove. 1999 dodge ram owner

2004 Dodge Ram 1500 won't start every other time...i have replaced the battery, starter, battery cables and ground.

Check the fuel pump, Check the fuel filter first though. Get under the car when it wont start hit the gass tank with a hammer while some one else trys to start it that will tell you if it's the fuel pump.

98 dodge ram 1500 Truck ran out of gas. It will start w/ starter fluid sprayed in filter but will not stay running.

Since the fuel pump is in the gas tank, your pump picked up debris, and dirt on the bottom of the tank and ran it into your fuel filter.
Replace fuel filter, and check fuel pump fuse.
Running your vehicle with less than a 1/4 tank of gas is hard on the pump, because the fuel pump uses gas to cool it.
Please let me know what you find.
